▾ Dragonhome's mountains are both treacherous and beautiful. The older peaks are laced with ancient footpaths that are heavily eroded and crumble at the slightest misstep, while the younger peaks are impassable slabs of rock, freshly heaved up from Sorineth's crust. There are tunnels and sinkholes, steep mazes of canyon that span horizons, and glacial valleys so remote they are several days' travel to the nearest draconic settlement. These wilds are not to be braved by just anyone, and some roads are nigh impassable without a guide who is intimately familiar with them. There is always a demand for guides, couriers, and messengers to service the more remote clans.
▾ This is Runner's job. Larger dragon breeds, or those who depend more heavily on flight to get around have trouble in the mountains because of the narrow roads and peaks trapped year round in harsh weather, but mirrors are built for this type of endurance travel. Runner is a hardy, pragmatic dragon: small enough to squeeze into most rocky cracks, swift enough to outpace the weather, and strong enough to climb all manner of slopes. Their approach to traversing the Cairnstone Range is similar to that of the nomadic snapper clans who originated there: slow and steady. They can sprint if need be, but Runner's at their best when maintaining a casual trot, which they can keep up for days with very little rest or sustenance. In this way, surrounded by their element, Runner can outpace just about any courier simply by not stopping, ever, long after their travelling companions have passed out from exhaustion. ▾ If you are one of the rare creatures that can keep pace with Runner on their long laps between outposts, ferrying goods, mail, and news, you're in for a treat. He's a very affable dragon, and easy to make entertaining conversation with. He also knows the mountains inside out, and will enthusiastically tell you about any of the curious creatures, plants, or rock formations you pass. He spends a lot of time trekking between snapper clans, and has gathered a lot of Dragonhome's history and folk tales from their elders, which he is happy to share with anyone interested. When his travelling companions inevitably lag behind, Runner will loop around them, offering moral support and trotting off ahead to scout the path and make it as easy to traverse as possible. Beneath the earth, his good friend Jasper is your best bet for a guide, but if you need to make a surface journey through the mountains, Runner is the one to seek out.
