Tom Riddle, better known as Lord Voldemort, is a half-blood wizard who is considered to have been the most powerful and dangerous Dark wizard of all time. The son of the wealthy Muggle Tom Riddle Senior and the witch Merope Riddle (née Gaunt), he was orphaned and raised in a Muggle orphanage, which remained his permanent residence through his 1938-1945 attendance at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was a member of Slytherin house. His accomplishments included the opening of Salazar Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets and the use of its monster to attack Muggle-born students; several months' service as a purchasing agent for the Dark artifacts shop Borgin and Burkes; the ability to speak Parseltongue; and the attainment of immortality between the years of 1942 and 1998, a process begun upon the creation of his first Horcrux at the age of 16. Splitting his own spirit into a total of eight fragments, Lord Voldemort created seven Horcruxes; one unintentionally and without his knowledge - Harry Potter. Abandoning his 'Muggle' name, he became the self-proclaimed Lord Voldemort, which was an anagram of his birth name. He commanded a veritable army of wizards and Dark creatures, committed numerous murders personally and through his followers, and on one occasion nearly succeeded and on a later occasion did succeed in taking over the Ministry of Magic by installing a puppet Minister. Tom had an unusually high degree of control over his powers. He could move objects with his mind and cause them to travel floating wherever he wished, manipulate animals and creatures as he wished, speak Parseltongue, and use his power to inflict harm on other orphans. After getting into a fight with fellow orphan Billy Stubbs, he used his powers to hang the boy's rabbit from the rafters. On one occasion, he took two orphans, Dennis Bishop and Amy Benson, into a cave, where he performed an act so horrifying that the two orphans were traumatized. Tom often stole from other orphans and hid their things in his cupboard as trophies. Tom desires to be different from others. He dislikes of his own name, because it is too common. Tom was eventually was invited to join The Slug Club. During his summer breaks, he was forced to return to the Muggle orphanage, which he despised and dreaded more than any other place on earth. Due to his exceptional acting abilities, he was able to convince virtually all of the Hogwarts staff and instructors that this facade was his true personality, with exception to Albus Dumbledore. He eventually gathered a gang of Slytherin thugs and called the group The Knights of Walpurgis. Tom became obsessed with his heritage and eventually learned of his Slytherin heritage. He found and opened the Chamber of Secrets. He released the Basilisk, and used it to attack several muggleborns. He only stopped when Myrtle Warren was killed, and the school was in danger of closing. To prevent the school from being closed he framed Rubeus Hagrid and his pet Acromantula, Aragog. Shortly after he creates his first Horcrux out of his diary. |
 
Tom's family on his mother Merope's side were the last known members of the House of Gaunt. The Gaunts were an ancient, and formerly wealthy, wizarding family, noted for producing individuals with violent and unstable personalities due to generations of inbreeding. Because of the Gaunt family's liking for grandeur, along with little sensibility at their indulgences, the family gold was gambled away and gone long before Tom was born. Tom's father, Tom Riddle Sr., was a wealthy Muggle living in the village of Little Hangleton, near the Gaunt shack, who was tricked into a relationship with Merope through use of a Love Potion.When Merope stopped using the love potions on Tom, he abandoned her and their unborn child. Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on 31 December, 1926 at Wool's Orphanage in London. His pure-blood mother, died shortly after his birth. Tom Riddle grew up in a dingy orphanage, completely unaware of his wizarding heritage. Since the Muggle orphanage staff did not know anything about his mother, they did not know about his magical background. Tom is the clans Historian. He is a scholarly dragon, who is never seen without his diary. Tom has done a bit of traveling throughout his life. He was first hatched in Light, but left his clan for an Ice flight shortly after. Regrettably, the cold weather was too much for the young Coatl, so he moved again to the warmer Nature flight. He soon discovered himself missing the Light clans abundance of books. He decided to join an Arcane clan opposed to returning to Light, hoping to avoid the strict regulations of the Light flight. His choice proved wise, as his current clan has no regulations on research or experimentation. |
