Icarus like many hatchlings didn't get his name until after his runic ability was seen. He was found crying by DocPatti and when told about the nature of his gift and that the other hatchlings were teasing him for something so useless. DocPatti explained that using her special oils and his ability he would be able to craft healing candles. Icarus quickly started asking all the other dragons about the possibilities using candles, from lost wax molds for intricate jewelry crafting and artistic ambiance to healing and poison could all take his gift from something laughed at to something that truly had many options. Icarus quietly devoted his time to developing all the possibilities his gift now gave him.
