"I wanted.. so desperately, to lose myself... And so, I did." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ The island seems to be in a constant state of thrumming, its pulse the endless shrieking of brightly coloured birds and the quick flashes of scurrying mammals hurrying through the trees. Insects thrive on every surface, the leaves beneath your feet a thin carpet that barely obscures the endless writhing of larvae and beetles and ants and countless other shiny backed, carapaced creatures. And if you peer through the thick splotches of trees, shades of green uncountable - there, she emerges. A rustling of feather and leaf, flesh and bone - only a flash of rope, a curl of intricate knot-work, a sway of shimmering beads tell you that she is something different than the stifling jungle around her. The way she moves is uncanny, as though she is somehow floating through the dense undergrowth towards you. As though she is, all at once, a part of this and yet... also not at all. She is too elegant, too serene, too graceful for that tight skin and taught muscle. It is obvious that she must know this jungle well, and yet... the way she hovers over it, slips through the greenery, visible and all of a sudden invisible... she does so with a certain refined arrogance, a self-assurance that tells you that she still thinks of herself as above all this. But when she speaks, over the clatter of her bamboo pipes strung from her delicate, twitching wings, that you realise she is nothing to be frightened of at all. She tells you her story - well, the briefness of it, stretched and delicate but full of holes like the webs of the jewelled spiders that stretch above you. The daughter of a rich, dreamy sort of woman. No prospects, no purpose besides a deep, burning sense of wanderlust. A series of violent, terrifying incidents - and then, just like that, she gave herself away to the trees and the birdsong and the warm hum of insects. The wild things... even those that sting, hunt, hurt - all of them a better mirror to her soul. Its rules easy to understand, consistent, perhaps even fair. But... even as she tells you all this, you realise. How can she have truly lost herself? The city still touches her tongue, her longing for company so clearly her vice. Even the pained way she speaks of her past... well, can she truly have escaped it, then? An open enigma, she finishes her story - and asks only for your own.
