Gale's Thoughts: Dominic
Dominic is wonderful. Truly, he is.
In comparison to the rest of his more reserved, stoic family, he's seen as the beloved black sheep of the bunch. Elva and Makenna adore him fervently and without reserve, and he's a real mamma's boy. Even Ilosovic looks upon his only son with something that could be called fondness if you're able to read him well enough (or at least, that's what Knight has assured me, since I am, unfortunately, not one of the dragons who can read Ilosovic's more minute facial expressions). Dominic has even managed to worm his way into the heart of a Serthis, Rorik, who he proudly proclaims as his best friend and who actually lives here in Chiaroscuro as one of our very few Beastclan residents.
He's downright bubbly a lot of the time, and gets a lot of joy out of the mundane things in life. A good meal or a well-timed joke can make his whole day, and he likes to share his happiness with others, making special effort in particular to bring joy to Zezili.
Oh my Gods, is Dominic ever so smitten with Zezili. When he's not away on a job, he seeks her out every day, and they have meals together or take walks around Chiaroscuro and spend hours just being together. It's so baffling to me that he's never once tried to actually woo her, but quite honestly, I think he's too afraid to hurt her on accident after she's been left behind by so many others before. I think he came to terms with his feelings years ago, and unless he's struck with some sort of epiphany one day, I think he'll wait to let her make the first move if either of them makes one at all. He's struck up a sort of relationship with Persephone in the meantime, maybe to see if he can move on from Zezili, maybe because Persephone also fascinates him. I haven't asked to find out.
One of the reasons he became close with Zezili in the first place was because of his job. Dominic is a cartographer who lends his services to clans looking to have maps made of their territories (if one were to look at the maps we have here in Chiaroscuro, they would see his handiwork). He gets a lot of return customers when those who are pleased with his work ask him to come back after they expand their reach. He's been to every flight's territory by this point in his career, though he's held a particular foothold in Dragonhome and the Viridian Labyrinth for a couple of decades now. Zezili cannot read maps, so Dominic has made it his mission to find out how she "sees" the world and produce something tangible for her to use to find her way around. He hasn't figured out the specifics yet, but he works on it constantly when he's not doing his actual job and is convinced he'll come up with something soon.
I'm proud to know someone like Dominic; he gives me hope that there are other dragons out there in the world, beyond Chiaroscuro's borders, that are as kind and tolerant as he is.
