Shasta's visions of death are no mere coincidence - he was born from a Pagan father and an Eclipseborn mother. Mink was born in the Eastern lands of Oasis, Sornieth's brother continent, where the sun danced off of hot sands and where dragons worship the being of the sun. Mink's family in particular has followed the ways of the God of the Dead for centuries, and Mink is no exception - he is no stranger to the Ether between worlds, nor the After itself. Naturally, he drew the interest of Samsheille, a Pearlcatcher born on the Day of the Eclipse with the ability to See what she pleases, be it the future or otherwordly spirits. She is a skilled interpreter of messages from deities, both Dragonkind and Pagan, and traverses a world where nothing is without meaning.
The two knew they were bound to bear extraordinary hatchlings - Shasta is proof of that. The combination of connection with death and connection with clairvoyance brewed the perfect storm. Every one of the pair's hatchlings exhibits an uncanny ability to predict the deaths of those they are close to. Some hatchlings may even have visions or dreams of the event - others garner information from intuition.
Shasta's visions are broader than those he is close to - he has seen a multitude of deaths, even as a hatchling, in his dreams. Oddly, he never seems to be fazed like his siblings do - rather, he's eager to learn from them. From the deaths he's seen, he has a tendency to give strangers he sees stories and names that he can teach lessons from, and as a result, feels more connected to his visions and other dragons. Shasta is gentler than others, and a bit conflicted at times about what is right, but is the friendliest of his clutch.
