Biography

Grabber started life with not much to his name...and considering he didn't even have that, he was quite badly off indeed. His parents were highly accomplished and expected the best from their hatchlings; weakness was not tolerated and all his siblings had been sent off to serve the Gods, having been deemed unfit to stay on earth. Knowing the same fate likely awaited him too, the nameless dragon fled for his life. He ran as fast and as far as he could, and when he felt his legs begin to give out, he took to the skies.

His flight at last brought him to the edge of the Tangled Woods, a place about which he had never heard anything pleasant. This, he had always been told, was a dark and dangerous land, unfit for anyone but criminals and thieves. The dragons who made their home here were untrustworthy ruffians and thugs who would kill you as soon as look at you. Well, he thought as he nervously stepped into the darkness, this would hopefully be the last place anyone would look for him.

It did not take him long to be found by a scouting party of Deathstryke's dragons. Recognizing the signs of a runaway, they invited him to return with them to their clan. Although uncertain as to their intentions, he decided to trust them for now; after all, he had nothing they could steal from him except his life, and if they had wanted that they surely would have taken it already. And so he followed them back to their home, deeper in the woods than he ever thought he would go. The sight of so many dragons surprised him, not having expected their family to be so big. To his further surprise it seemed everyone here was actually quite friendly, with none of the hostility he had been taught to expect. Most of the dragons appeared to be warriors and hunters, but there were a few artisans in their midst, and the young male knew that he would be welcome here no matter what path he chose.

Having been brought to Deathstryke, the Skydancer knew at once that she was the leader of this band of misfits. She surveyed him with a stern but kind expression, and offered him food and rest. He allowed himself a night to recover from his grueling travels before asking if he could stay with them. The dragons all wanted to know his name, and he was ashamed to tell them that he had none, worrying that they would think him too lowly to join even them. But as he opened his mouth to speak, an authoritative voice carried over the crowd.

"Grabber," it spoke, and the lad looked up to see Deathstryke grinning at him, "his name is Grabber." Grabber looked at her with confusion and relief, and smiled back sheepishly as she gave him a wink. When the dragons dispersed, the newly christened Grabber asked Deathstryke why she had given him such a name as that. With another grin, she confessed to him that she named him after a special color of rare blue paint. That color, she admitted, had been her favorite ever since she was a girl, and he looked nearly exactly like it. Smiling at his new commander, Grabber promised that he would do everything in his power to live up to the honored name she had bestowed upon him.

What Grabber found he excelled at best was mechanics and racing. Shiro, the clan's engineer, had needed someone to help him with a few large projects, and Grabber had volunteered to assist him. He told Shiro that he had no idea what he was doing, that he had never studied these sorts of things in his entire life, but to both their surprise it turned out he was naturally skilled at grasping the complexities of this field. He is now Shiro's faithful partner in the shop, always nearby and positively covered in grease and oil. He is more repair man than inventor, his hands and mind more adept for fixing things than the delicate complexities required for Shiro's unique inventions, but Shiro doesn't mind that in the slightest. Having someone who can attend to those tasks means that he has more time available to him to tinker about in his workshop, and he is grateful to Grabber for his help freeing up his schedule.

When he isn't spending time mending and building, he is out rally racing. He's quite a daredevil, and discovered the sport when he was exploring the woods with a few other clanmates. They came to a track made in the forest, with obstacles of all sorts, a combination of stunt flying and speed running through the rough terrain. Grabber took to it like a fish to water, quickly earning a name for himself as a top competitor. He has not won every race he has participated, but he always finishes well and never finishes last. If there are any spectators placing bets, Grabber is a safe dragon to put your money on.
