Biography

Alere does not remember the beginning of her life. She has no idea when her hatchday was, how old she is, who her parents were or even what her name was before she met Oeno.

No, her first true memory is of the great, green-blue guardian shielding her small, exhausted form from an enraged Owlcat. Before that, everything had just been... a blur. Days and night passing by without any way to tell the difference between them – no need to tell the difference between them. She had existed before that meeting, yes, but she had not lived. Oeno taught her how; he gave her a name, he taught her how to speak, hunt, fly and fight properly; he cared. No-one had cared before. No-one had even noticed the lost little Fae wandering the Ashfall Waste.

That Oeno did... it made him the centre of her world. Well, to be honest, he was her whole world, at first. She did not know anything else. As they made the decision to start a Clan, to help others in need, however, that world slowly grew bigger, and she started getting stronger, learning how to fly on her own.

The breaking point was when Iatana came to the clan, really. She encouraged both the founders – now mates – to grow stronger so that they could meet the challenges of the world head-on.

Alere found it freeing, at first, to feel herself grow stronger day by day, to be able to easily defeat the Owlcats that had terrified her earlier. As Oeno and Iatana kept pushing onwards, forwards all the time, however, she found that battle... was not really her calling. At least not on the front lines. Retreating to stand behind the other fighters, she began to lay plans; to support, to strategize.

And the Clan's strength grew. Overjoyed by this, she threw herself at her plans with new enthusiasm, until, at last, they were strong enough to support their Flight in its dominance effort.

For a time, that was enough.

But a change, when started, cannot be stopped. Alere's change had already begun, a long time ago. She was now a creature entirely different from the lost Fae found by Oeno. She started to feel uncomfortable in her own body, and her magic reacted to this, making her something entirely different.

A Skydancer.

Larger now, and with wings endurant enough to carry her ambitions, Alere aimed higher. Wanting to test her Clan's – her – strength against that of all the other Clans, all the other Flights, the rumours of a Great Winter Battle exited her greatly.

Only to be disappointed, no, betrayed, by her own Flight. They had taken the coward's way out and decided to not participate! Incensed, and fully supported by her clan – Iatana foremost amongst them – Alere made the heavy decision to switch allegiances. Moving from the Ashfall Wastes, the Clan renounced its allegiance to the Flamecaller and swore itself to the Arcanist instead, making a new home for themselves in the Starfall Isles. It was a somewhat... hasty decision, Alere admits in hindsight, as the Arcane Flight is not quite as competitive as she would have liked, but she was just so angry that she can be forgiven a small mistake. The Clan has no issues with moving again, eventually.

Despite the hasty decision, though, Alere got what she wanted. Participation in the Great Battle. Oh, and it was glorious. Sure, it opened her eyes as to how far the Clan of the Mystic Exiled Inferno still has to go to compete against the strongest and most ancient clans, but that just made her all the more excited. She loves a challenge, and what challenge could be greater than making her Clan the strongest amongst the myriads populating the eleven different Flights?

That was not the only thing the Battle opened her eyes to, however. The Battle also made her realize how very much she and her mate had changed from that nameless, helpless little Fae and the lonely, wandering Guardian. She was a Skydancer now, with ambitions as high as the Pillar had been before shattering, if not higher, and Oeno... Oeno was a Ridgeback, surrounded by friends, family, and Clan and weighed down with responsibility. Alere demanded the best of both herself and others, as well as full attention from her mate, something Oeno could no longer give her.

Realizing that they had drifted apart irrevocably, they mutually decided to break up their mateship, even if they kept a close bond as founders and leaders of the Clan of the Mystic Exiled Inferno, as well as long-time companions and friends.

The place in her heart as her mate, though, could never be his again. Instead, it was taken by Malorn. She had not realized how cold her previous mateship had grown until he came, ready and willing to give her his full attention, and more, and support her in anything she decided to do. With Malorn , she learnt to love all over again.

With the Great Battle long finished, everyone settled down comfortably for a very long time in the Starfall Isles. But, alas, it was not meant to be. At Iatana's urgent request, Alere made the tough decision to uproot the entire clan once again and move to The Southern Icefield. Many urged Alere not to, but she trusted Iatana and went forth with the plan. Many dragons refused to follow and left the clan.

As they journeyed through the Windswept Plateau, they came across the SoftCheek Clan. The two clans struck up a great friendship and would continue to travel and trade with each other even after the Mystic Exiled Inferno made their home in the Southern Icefield.

As time went on, young dragons would grow bored of the same old surroundings and would wish to travel. Often, they would end up joining the SoftCheek Clan and vise versa.
