Let It Die- Three Days Grace

Kole is among the most highly-respected dragons in the clan, unchallenged as leader due to his wit. Having read nearly as many books as he's written, he can pull relevant facts seemingly out of thin air--diagnosing a dragon's illness, strategizing the best method to win Shock Switch, and calculating the amount of time needed to spend in the Coliseum in order to get the familiar he wants. All of this knowledge comes at a price, though: Kole has unlocked a lot of his mental capacity, and his only (only) focus is to gain more knowledge. Everything he does is in the pursuit of learning more. He spends each moment learning about the soil he's stepping on. Every time he bonds with his familiar is just to learn how it interacts with dragons. Every child he has is to test the effects of nature versus nurture, and every mate he's had is to more closely examine dragon characteristics. This, he hypothesizes, is why it didn't work out with Fivva, his first mate. She fell in love with Kole for his intelligence, and while she wasn't stupid, by Kole's standards, she wasn't smart either. Because of it, combined with his insistence that emotions—that so-called “love” was nothing more than neurons altering chemical reactions in the brain, he pushed all emotion aside, and he and Fivva inevitably fought and broke up. He never focused on this for too long, though, even after her departure from the clan entirely...it was all just a learning experience, and that was good enough for him with regards to relationships, even if he never meant to let it die.

But then, he found himself with not one, but two daughters—Kante, and her sister. And...the more they started to grow up, the more he found himself getting attached. Genuinely attached, far beyond the extent he thought capable of himself. He, the dragon who fully believed in the illusion of emotions and never their substance...loved his daughters.

Kante, even though she was so much slower to learn than he would have ever tolerated out of any other dragon, was endearing, and her propensity for gardening and finding the rarest plants for him made them both a great team. And her sister, though still young and forgetful yet, has a certain knack and interest in aquatic life, and her and Kante's love and care for him seems to have softened him in ways that he never expected.

...But maybe...that's not so much of a bad thing.
