SYLVALI
CLAN MATRIARCH
Kind | Patient | Understanding

"cool quote here about something relevant to your dragon or clan by someone who's prolly cool too." - name

quick look
Sylvali is a gentle, motherly dragon. She cares for all of Zephyrus as if they were her own flesh and blood. She generally tries to avoid any special treatment despite being the Clan Leader, reasoning that she doesn't really do all that much. Those among the clan know that they are safe though; they know Sylvali will protect them at all costs, even with her own life. Many of her children, as well as her grandchildren, have had similar aspirations, up positions within Zephyrus to support their fellow clanmates. Others have become diplomats for their birth clan, or left to serve the gods themselves through exaltation. She is proud of each and every one of them, regardless of the paths they choose.
history
The day was clear and bright, the perfect day to visit the trading post. The bright-eyed young fae was all over the place, talking to everyone she could find, and looking at anything and everything she could get her hands on. Finding a particularly interesting concoction among Baldwin's wares, she took the bottle in her tiny hands, holding it up to the sun and marveling at how the light shined through the bottle

“Sylvali" Her mother's monotone, yet somehow authoritative voice sounded, breaking the trance of wonder "Put that down and behave yourself.” Sylvali stopped, looking up at her mother before setting the bottle back down and shrinking away from Baldwin's stand.

The older fae's frills gave away nothing, in the same deadpan resting position they always were “we are here to get what we need and leave” Sylali nodded in understanding, and once her mother was satisfied she wasn't going to continue rifling through all the stands, she returned to the business she was doing with Swip. A bit downtrodden, Sylvali slinked off to a tree over on the other side of Pinkerton’s pile, her frills drooping dejectedly as she climbed up to sit in its branches while she waited for her parents to tell her it was time to leave.

Sylvali was not someone who could say she was happy with her life. Due to her strict upbringing, she'd had little interaction with dragons her age. This had led to her never really having any friends since none of the few she had met had been up to her parent's standards, not that her family ever stayed in one place long enough for her to really get to know anyone anyways. Her parents were traveling merchants and were quite successful at that. As the first-hatched, Sylvali would’ve been expected to eventually either take over had she been hatched a boy, but fate had seen it fit to have her hatch out a girl instead.

She was almost fully grown now, and her parents had already begun talks with another merchant family about having her marry their son to combine their two companies. Her younger brother was the favored child who got everything trivial thing he wanted, while she didn't even have a say in arguably the most important thing in her life. It wasn't fair.

As she curled up on the branch she'd chosen to sit on, strong gusts of wind blew buffeted the trading post, almost knocking her off her tree. When the air finally became calm again, she saw two magnificent imperials who had just arrived at the trading post, the wind having been from their large, leathery wings as they'd landed. Moving along her branch to get a closer look, she saw that both of them had beautiful obsidian scales that seemed to shine and shimmer in the sunlight, like dark gemstones with colored runes of blue and gold respectively.

As she watched in awe, she heard them talking to Pinkerton about acquiring something they needed to bring back to their clan. Checking to make sure her mother was still busy with Swip, Sylvali glided down from her tree and hurried over to listen. The two imperials looked like they'd come a long way, and she wanted to hear more if she could. As she snuck closer, she heard one of them mention 'The Focal Point'. Her frills stood up and quivered a bit in awe. She'd read about The Focal Point in a scroll about the youngest of the eleven deities, it was in the territories belonging to the arcane clans. It was much further than Sylvali had ever been, further than even her parents had ever been. A place they wouldn’t likely follow.

Taking one last look at her mother, and then to the many pockets in the imperial's saddle bags, Sylvali made her choice and never looked back

It had been many years since Sylvali had first stowed away in Midnight’s travel bags to escape the life she’d been hatched into. She’d not set foot in the lands of windsinger since that day, and as she glided down towards the Zephyr Steppes, she couldn’t help but feel nervous. Something deep in her core was calling her back to this place. It had been but a whisper when she first left, but it had grown to a screaming storm in recent months, so loud she could ignore it no longer.

How much had changed in the years she was gone? The places she’d been, people she’d known, all of it was bound to be different. She was so absorbed in her thoughts as she landed that she didn’t notice the other dragon just off a ways

“Sylvali?”

Both pairs of her frills shot up in surprise as her head whipped around to the source of the voice to see a brown and green fae dragon, his frills cocked asymmetrically in confusion. As he saw her react to the name, his frills rose higher, the smaller set wiggling happily

“It is you! It’s been so long sister.” He made his way closer as he spoke

Sylvali’s own frills dipped down on one side, showing her confusion “i didn’t know you were here. Last i heard, the family business had permanently relocated to the Shifting Expanse” it was the only reason she’d finally decided to return

Myron blinked, his fins moving to mirror Sylvali’s own confusion “you must not have heard, I’ve been disowned”

Sylvali’s fins shot up in shock “Disowned? How?”

His fins went crooked with laughter “you know how they are, everything has to fit their perfect image. Having a son who wasn’t interested in taking a mate or continuing the family line wasn’t what they were looking for”

“Huh…” Sylvali let the news sink in for a moment. She’d spent so long envious of her brother when they were young, she’d never thought that he, the golden child, was capable of disappointing their parents.

“Guess we’re a pair now, huh?” he gave her a friendly nudge, before turning his gaze towards a nearby caravan Sylvali hadn’t noticed before “anyways, you should join me for the night. I’m traveling with a caravan from the Millmeadows”

Sylvali could hear the faint sound of music and laughter coming from the caravan. She hadn’t really planned where she was going to stay, and it would be nice to catch up with her brother. She was curious to hear about his own travels

Looking to Myron, she found him drooping his fins and looking up at her, the fae equivalent of the sad puppy face. Her frills quivered with laughter and she playfully shoved him away “alright, alright, stop making that face, I’ll stay”

Myron immediately perked up and hopped away a few paces in excitement “lets go then, i’ll introduce you to everyone”

Shaking her head in amusement, Sylvali spread her wings and jump-glided over to him, following him across the steppes to the group

As she chatted with her brother through the night, she became acutely aware of a pair of eyes watching her. She looked around every so often to try and figure out whose, but whoever it was would never be looking when she was.

Myron gave her a little nudge his frills quivering in amusement “trying to find your admirer?” he whispered

Sylvali’s frills flew up in a fluster “I don’t know what you’re talking about Myr”

He tilted his head and shifted his frills into a deadpan “right, and I’m The Windsinger himself” he stretched out dramatically “it’s the red and blue fae over by the healer’s tent by the way”

Sylvali blinked, looking in the direction Myron had told her just in time to see the fae in question fluster and look away this time.
