Biography
CACOETHES impulsive | problem-solving | enthusiastic Advisor by Bad Example they/them "It's like an itch, and you've got to scratch it or it'll drive you out of your mind." |
template by Devonix x | x | x | x | x | x |
Cacoethes makes a rather unforgettable first impression. They stride into a room with confidence and don't shrink at all from the attention it gains them. Should they be overlooked, they aren't the kind to pout over that, but it does perplex them, as they're used to being a magnet for attention. They're accustomed to odd looks, whispers just out of earshot, concerned glances, and low growls of frustration, and they react to it as if it is their very birthright to accept. To hear them tell it, it is indeed part of the purpose to which they were born. In manner, they are best described as "chaotic." They consider any impulse that crosses their mind, they grin brightly at the suggestion of a dare, and they brush aside any warnings of potential ill to befall them should they engage in such behavior. However, their manner should not be mistaken for a lack of caution! They aren't at all oblivious to the dangers ahead, and their action isn't truly recklessness, either. Instead, it seems that they consider a choice with potentially dangerous consequences to be a puzzle-room to escape rather than avoided. Or as yet another piece of experience to add to their vast collection of stories to tell, not to boast as a daredevil, but to keep close for their own enrichment. They provide a startlingly dependable font of advice, perhaps because they have so often done exactly as they should not, and perhaps because they so much experience in extracting themself from unfavorable outcomes. To this end they have earned the role of advisor, but one whose disclaimer is "do as I say, never as I do." They have little issue appending their warnings with tales of those who attempted to emulate them, and the terrible ends that they met. Some scoff and assume that Cacoethes is telling tall tales, or at the very least exaggerating the outcomes of these stories. Others say it matters not if it works to keep the hatchlings from engaging in dangerous behavior. To those who know them well, they will respond to the nickname "Weez," which amuses them. Those who have not yet earned the familiarity demanded will find it a mistake to call them so, and display their assumption of such right to do so. |
cacoethes: (ka-ko-WEE-theez) an uncontrollable desire or irresistible urge to do something harmful; mania for ill-considered behavior borrowed from Latin cacoēthes "disease of character," borrowed from Greek kakóēthes "malignancy, wickedness," noun derivative from neuter of kakoēthēs "ill-disposed, malicious, (of things) abominable" |
