________Kuiper always took his Ice Ambassador duties very seriously.
________Born the son of two, at the time, Tundras, his family always kept a strong connection with the Ice Flight. He was practically destined to serve as an Ambassador.
________The accident happened on his third visit.
________The trip from the Scarred Wasteland to the Southern Icefield is a long one. Thankfully, the Ice flight doesn’t produce much, and exports even less, so Ice Ambassadors don’t need to move fast. After two long weeks of walking and flying, Kuiper decided to camp alone for the night. He was supposed to have already reached one of the ice clans he was travelling to, but he figured, accurately, that arriving a day or two late wouldn’t make much of a difference. He fell asleep easily in the middle of the snowy landscape.
________Maybe it was the heat of his body. Maybe it was his mere presence. But something started to move under him in the ice. Something old. Something dark. He would later learn that what was trapped there was a dragon, yes, but a mere shadow of one. A mirror corrupted by remnants of the dark forces the Gods had driven out of the Land… It didn’t take long for the Shade to fully possess him.
________He was caught when he tried to attack a nearby clan. He was brutal, and filled with rage, a beast. But nothing too worrysome for experienced Ice warriors. He got caught.
________Now Ice dragons have one(1) job. And they take it very seriously. As punishment for setting the Shade free, and to make sure it wouldn’t scape again, the Ice denizens decided to trap Kuiper under the ice forever. A strange thing, however, happened. As they were preparing to jail him, he seemed to regain full consciousness and begged for forgiveness.
________An ice mage examined him, and determined that the Shade was still within him, but had recessed. On purpose, he said, to make it seem like it had gone away, and then control Kuiper again if he was set free. He had to let himself be sealed in the ice, the mage said, for the good of dragonkind.
________Kuiper cried and begged. He was too young to die! No one in this foreign clan seemed to care, but the mage. "Let the young man have one last day", he said. And when the night fell over the South, he came to visit him, and offered him an alternative. He would do his best to seal the Shade away deep within the tundra’s heart, preventing it from escaping and infecting other dragons. Kuiper would however still have to fight it with all his might to stay in control of his own body… But he wouldn’t be a really dangerous menace, and could be allowed to leave the clan, in secret. A small tundra alone wasn’t going to do much damage, even a Shade-touched one…

________Now his clanmates wonder why him, the ice nerd, won’t go back to the Icefield… He doesn’t even want to hear about Ice, at all, anymore. When the flight is mentioned before him, he always seem like he’s gonna tear up… Before entering a blind rage, that almost seems, somehow, not quite draconish.
________Not that Kuiper is particularly need in the South. In fact, he’s way more useful in the clan, and has been allowed to stay. Because even tho he isolates himself in the ridgeback tunnels most of the time, locked up, surrounded in strange charms… His new habit to read up on anything curse and dark magic-related proved really useful. Slowly, he’s finding a new purpose…
