Plummeting into the raging ocean with Ocheane holding her tightly to his body, his wings acting as a feeble guard against the battering storm, lightning lit up his dripping face and fearful eyes looked up into his steely gaze. His eyes always told her everything about him and in this moment it was still the same; he would protect her to the end, to his last ragged breath if so be it; her noble Guardian would endure The Shade for her rather than let her go now.

Hitting the icy water, her tiny frame seized up in shock as they sank under the surface. The freezing temperatures were too much for her already weak body and the salty water was painful to her wounds. Oxygen was wrenched from her lungs as she tumbled over and over and the violent waves tore them apart. Desperately trying to reach the surface and take those few precious breaths, the last thing she saw was his dark shape in the water as her vision blacked out.


The first time he had lumbered into her clan on his quest, they had both felt an immediate connection between them. At first it started a shy accompaniment, then a caring friendship and finally upon realising and confirming that she was his Charge, they had both agreed it was far more than that in reality.
