Rough draft of lore:

Project Siren: Create a dragon with fully realized Aural Empathetic Resonance. Initially the potential was discovered in Cappricio, a bard who was able influence his audience's emotions beyond what mere music could account for. He was brought into the lair to see if he could gain some control over this power. He was never able to induce responses without feeling it himself so he was marked as a incomplete success and female holding the recessive trait were found. Cuivre was found to be the most compatible of the females brought in.

Initially, Cantabile was closest the project had come to completion, but he was not able seperate his own feelings from the feelings of the target, resulting in overall being marked as a failure. However he was chosen to be the next generation of the project.

Cantible went from a failure to a success when a lab accident changed him from a wildclaw to a fae. Because fae's communicate so heavily emotion with body language, that was the push he needed to differentiate his own emotions from the tonal induced emotions in his target. Because of his ability to empathetically read others, he does not have the problems most faes have with picking up emotions from other breeds. Because faes speak in monotone, he cannot use singing or speaking to control another creature, he has to use one of his musical instruments. His skill with them is nigh unmatched because he has been training in them since before he could fly.

Faes are highly resistant to his control because of atonality. (Eventually, he discovers a hummed, chant-like singing method that can effect faes.)
