Many in number, numb in mind. No true names were given, only a number by which they were identified. The children born of their rulers, the Queen and knight and the heir and her consort, were honored with true identities, but not their children, though they were born on Plague soil.

But numbers would ultimately protect them, keep them safe, for once you were given a number, you meant nothing.

And that may have been the greatest armor of all.

Their birth has broken their mother and enraged her lover. Their very existence is a catalyst that will change The Vengeful forever.

Thousand took her child's hand and ushered them to the edge of the territory of the fearsome Vengeful. She could not be gone so long; her presence would surely be missed by the volatile Zulekha soon enough. She could not let her captors know where she had taken the very last of her children to leave this horrible place...by one route or another. She had lost track of Billion. She would not lose another. Unwanted or not, she refused to abandon her children the way she had been abandoned.

"Here," she murmured, thrusting a few simple possessions wrapped in a scrap of cloth torn from her own clothing, nuzzling her son's cheek with the tip of her nose. "It's not much, but it's all I can spare. I'm so sorry you were born into this wretched place, but I could not be happier that you are leaving it." She smiled sadly, tears swimming at the edges of her deep purple eyes. "Go. Go and be happy. Run, fly, as fast as you can, and never look back. Do not try to write to me; any correspondence will only put you in danger." She turned to look behind her, for she could hear the angry cries of her mistress. "I love you, my son. I wish things could have been better for you here, with me, but you will be safer on your own." She kissed his forehead. "Never forget how much I love you, my son. I will think of you often. Goodbye." With that, she began to retreat, watching as the last of her children fled this awful world that she, unfortunately, was forced to call home.

Half-starved, Million stumbled into the clan's territory well after dark. Creeper was on patrol and found it, shivering and injured. After getting the skydancer to follow, Creeper got them into the nurses' care, where they spent a couple weeks recovering from malnutrition, various animal bites and scratches, and mild food poisoning from the random things Million had managed to eat.

It arrived without any possessions, save (for some odd reason) a worn-our bird's toy, faded beads rubbed down on the edges form worry. They refused to let it out of their sight, despite it being obviously (to all but it) garbage, so it was allowed to stay near them through his recovery.

Once it began feeling better, Kazul offered it a chance to find a place in her clan, explaining that they would be welcome to stay as long as they liked. Million thanked her, and began learning its way around the lair, meeting other dragons, and seeing what sorts of help they could be.

After some time, they found its place with Nana and Marcello. While Nana was a master with alchemy, and Marcello brilliant at identifying plants and fungi, neither of them really had a desire to go much further than that. Million began experimenting - growing conditions, use of magic, splicing plants together, cross-pollination, and more.
