Biography
Blackwood payed little thought to her guardian daughter, all her attention was for Berath's pearlcatcher sisters. Berath didn't mind, it just left her with more time to spend with her father, Thanatos, learning the rites and rituals of the Bone Court.
Berath can hear the whispers from the shadows, see the flickers from the corners of her eyes, the spirits of the restless dead are never far from her. Some were left without the proper burial rites and, being trained in the ways of the Court, she gives them the rest they deserve, dragon and beastkin alike. Others have secrets they wish to pass on or confessions to make before their spirits can rest, Berath listens making no judgements simply lending a willing ear.
Very few have no desire to pass on, even if the proper burial rituals were preformed. Berath keeps these spirits close both to keep them from harming others and in the hopes that one day she can lay them to rest. These spirits have some use as they will lead Berath to the dying, the ones that no magic or healing can save. Berath helps ease their passing, taking their life and pain away with a single breath. Afterwards she performs the rites of burial ensuring that the deceased’s spirit stays forever at rest.
Berath met Magran while traveling through the Emberglow Hearth. The fae assisted Berath by burning the bones of a dead mirror. Since then the two have traveled together with Magran assisting in burials and providing living companionship to the otherwise solitary Berath.

Is it better to not have received so much of Mother's attention? seems like things didn't quite turn out so well for the pearlcatcher sisters.
maybe some kind of power with taking life from breath? definitely got something, presumably death-related. mother had weather witch powers.
could have stayed at the Court if they wanted, to learn the trade. blackwood didn't care.
