“Have a look! I’ve got nothing to hide.” Born a nocturne in the Sunbeam Ruins, Sunvar became familiar with uncomfortable dualities early on. Uncomfortable for others, that is - he never seemed to have a problem with the traits that put him at odds with traditional Light thinking. All this emphasis on truth, and for what? Even the best of them were so easily deceived. What started as a way to get what he needed to survive as a young, parentless dragon became a hobby, then a craft - his intricately constructed spells deceived the eye, confused the senses, making his targets question everything from the change they’d just counted out for him to the very color of the sky. Fun as this was for Sunvar, many dragons in his hometown were distinctly less amused. Faced with a blockade of merchants and innkeepers who flat-out refused to do business with him - and who were quickly becoming more adept at seeing through his disguises - he decided it was time to hone his craft elsewhere. On the road his deceptions were much easier - a strange face was often forgotten by the time pilfered items or short tills came to light. But gods if it wasn’t boring... Sunvar missed the days of thrilling chases and lightning-quick banter to dodge a lie. After meandering through nearly every flight's territory he found himself back in the Sunbeam Ruins, but even then it wasn't the same. One day, bored and surveying a touristy old ruin bustling with visitors - ripe for pickpocketing, of course - he felt a tug at his own cloak, quickly whirling to find a teary-eyed youngster peering up at him. "I thought you might be them 'cuz you're purple but you're not," they informed him gravely, before dissolving into tears. Beset with panic for a moment, he looked around, but nobody seemed to be looking for the poor thing. "Oh, it'll be alright, we'll find your - purple," he said, harried but simply unable to just leave them here. Taking the child's hand, Sunvar set off through the crowd. Thankfully, some deftly conjured flames in the shape of various beastclans quieted the child's crying, their eyes wide as they watched them dance around their head. Finally Sunvar spotted a purple cloak through the milling people, pulling the child toward them. "Hey! You, in the purple!" he called, blinking as they whirled around. "Oh, thank gods," they said, kneeling down to meet the child that ran into their arms. "Thank you for bringing her back. Normally I don't have trouble with only three -" they gestured to two other children, watching from behind them with wide eyes - "but you just get a little bit too excited sometimes, hmm?" The child blushed and nodded, and her caretaker straightened up to meet Sunvar's eyes. "I'm Denak," they said, holding a hand out for him to take. Sunvar did after a moment of hesitation, finding their grip warm and firm. "Was that your casting just then? The fire?" Sunvar nodded, a grin crossing his face - his own magic is always one of his favorite topics. "A little parlor trick, but fun, right?" He winked at the little girl, and she nodded and laughed. Denak watched the interaction with a pondering look on his face, then smiled. "Say, would you be willing to perform some of those 'parlor tricks' for a larger audience?" they asked. "It's a festival next week, of course, and it's been some time since our clan's festivities have been very exciting for our younger members." A refusal was on the tip of Sunvar's tongue - performing, and for children? - but one glance at the hopeful faces looking up at him had him pause. "I... well, it's hardly my usual thing, but I can certainly try." ♥ PASH (his cat) Despite her name (which translates loosely to trap), Pash is more likely to foil Sunvar's clever tricks than help out. Still, Sunvar has been hopelessly fond of this little ball of fur since he rescued her as a kitten. ♡ DENAK (a friend) Denak first introduced Sunvar to Shi'Kahr, and remains his closest friend in the clan. Denak's charges are always excited to see their Sunvar stop by with new tricks and illusions to show them. ♡ NOX (a friend) Their shared affinities for deceptive magics - and lately, their more benevolent uses - gives them much to bond over. |
