Ryu

RYU:
Uptight, Proud, Protective

Ryu is the main male protector of the clan. Mated to Nyeema, Ryu interacts little with his hodgepodge clan-folk. He prefers to remain on the outskirts of the den. An unsociable sort, gruff and of few words, Ryu takes his role as protector seriously. His temper is quick and rears it's head when interrupted for any reason during his Watch. It was not what he had imagined, this life, when he set out on The Search a long while ago. Sure that he would be alone for the rest of his years, Ryu believed his destiny would involve the ferocious guard of a pile of shining, inanimate objects. Of this he could not have been more wrong, as mere weeks into The Search he stumbled upon a strange snake-like reptile. He had not seen such a beast, long and thin like a serpent, forked tongue, but the snakes he knew were not this large, nor did they have limbs... or wings. Despite not knowing what exactly he was looking at, Ryu felt a shifting in his belly. Ah... so this was to be his charge... this... flying snake... with arms... It would be far from a life of quiet and solitude. The thing had already tried to talk to him... at least it sounded like it was trying to talk. The sound was painfully strange and made his head vibrate.

And so it begun, his new life. His search had abruptly ended and the prize at the end was another dragon... albeit a strangely deformed snake-like one. Days bled into weeks, and weeks into months. Ryu learned that the odd flying snake preferred food from the water, which was just fine by him... although he often felt the urge to go against all of his protective instincts and challenge the creature's food preferences. Beggars cannot be choosers after all... Well I guess they can... but they shouldn't be. Ryu became quite a proficient fisher, and practiced muzzling the cooing snake-beast with his enormous palm on a regular basis. This would be a long lifetime if the creature did not appreciate the sound of silence.
