Biography

Kovgiu3.png
firstgenlight_by_wesleydog-d8ww2cf.gif
The first thing Sverre ever wrote was a poem about a bird. It told of the bird's life from the earliest days of its life, in the safety of its nest, to the terrifying day when it awoke to find its parents gone. On its first flight, it got blown of course by the wind and winded up somewhere it never should have gone, away from everything safe. Yet it was taken care of, and it survived. Sverre was that bird.

Sverre had been hatched into a world of perpetual darkness. However, the darkness he'd known and loved was not dangerous. It was a friendly, welcoming sort of darkness, one that would protect him from the true dangers he faced as a hatchling. He'd always loved how in the darkness, you could see things that didn't actually exist. Those visions often came to him in surprising ways, be it in the reflection of a puddle or a pattern in the stars. While he didn't know it at the time, these strange visions called to him and formed within him a desire to learn more, and to know. Those shadows were his home, and he wanted to perceive them for what they truly were. He never got that chance.

One morning, as the sun was just rising from behind the horizon, Sverre woke alone. His family was nowhere to be found. Looking around his nest, he realized that everything had been as it was last night, but no one was there. He called out tentatively, unsure if it was just a trick. It wasn't. A couple of minutes full of the cries of hungry predators proved that. Wildclaw though he was, Sverre was too young to defend himself and knew he needed shelter. There was one more longing look at his home. Then he left.

Bright, harsh light seeped into Sverre's eyes, burning bright like a million suns. He'd been here for a month and he still did not like it. After spending half his life in the refreshing darkness of the Tangled Wood, the sunlight was too painful to think about. Sverre couldn't deny that he'd been lucky, however. Many dragons would've left him to rot, but one clan hadn't turned their backs like the rest had. They'd let him stay, and made sure he was safe.

It had been such a long time since the last time he'd awoken in shadow, and he missed it dearly. Sverre sighed, not knowing what to do. He couldn't just leave, not without saying goodbye... at least, not permanently. He quickly scribbled a note, pinned it to his door, gathered up some essentials and raced outside. He ran down the worn paths, not once stopping to speak. He needed to get there before the next nightfall... or else he might miss it...

Sverre collapsed, unable to go any further. His wings hang like rotten logs beside him, weary due to his long, rushed flight. The only good news was that he had arrived on time to see it. The meteor shower he had been promised to be shown, right before his parents disappeared. Now, on his own, was his chance. He raised his head just as the first streak of white light raced through the sky, and he was hit by an unexpected pang of homesickness.

It was there, then, that Sverre realized he no longer belonged in a world of shadows and mystery. While he may have been hatched there, and while he may have needed a visit to his first home, he didn't belong there anymore. His home lay far to the east, in a world of golden silks and knowledge; a world of sunlight.
