Biography
Yuan-te was brought to Stonehearth as a hatchling, subject in every sense of the word to Schism, the self-styled Barbarian King of the North. Schism had intended to plunder Stonehearth of its supposed riches; Yuan-te was to serve as a servant and, if necessary, as a distraction or adorable hostage. Fortunately, through the flattery of Stonehearth's most skilled ambassadors, Schism was induced to stay in Stonehearth without any bloodshed, and Yuan-te was given the childhood that he had never had. More than that; he was adored by almost all of Stonehearth, as they hadn't seen any children for longer than most would like to remember. He was, to put it bluntly, spoiled through the rest of his childhood and adolescence.
At heart, Yuan-te is a nervous creature, prone to starting up in surprise when another dragon enters the room. His years with Schism before Stonehearth were not kind. However, his treatment upon entering Stonehearth caused a rather abrupt shift within his personality: he now has a rather inflated sense of self-importance, bestowed upon him by his countless doting parents in the months after he joined Stonehearth and Schism was talked down. If his initial attempts to defer attention fail, he becomes almost as bad as Candor in voicing his opinion and not taking no for an answer. One subject upon which he refuses to yield is writing. He was trained with sand tables and quills at Schism's side, and upon gaining some freedom in Stonehearth, he pushed Atronas to teach him Common Draconian. In the ensuing years, he has taught himself the characters of several Beastclan languages as well as making a stab at Coatl. He is now the official Stonehearth Chronicler and Scribe, the one asked to write missives to other Clans as well as for internal matters. While most of the smaller breeds can write as well as read not many of them are as deft of claw as he is, and he has been known to be the author of several love letters--as well as some territorial dispute dispatches. The larger breeds use him almost exclusively, when they can't bring themselves to go talk in person. He is well aware of his importance within the Clan, and it varies day to day whether his weak and scared side or his egotistical one assert themselves. Beware: if he is asked to write a letter of an important nature when his ego is showing, he'll charge double and, even when paid, will gossip about its contents for the whole Lair to hear.
