_____ _____ When his beloved came to him, stepping out of the shadows as was her habit, Menos knew something was wrong. It was not something he could put a claw to, rather an long since earned understanding of the shadows that trailed Nyx even in the bright light of the midday sun. They moved as well, shifting as if swaying to an invisible wind even as Nyx stood still as a statue. It had unnerved many a dragon into full on retreat, unable to care about their dignity or reputation in the face of what Nyx represented. Will and power and shadows given life. Many who encountered Nyx claimed she was the Shade given form, the evidence of a dark bargain between the Shadowbinder and that which would destroy them all, if given the smallest sliver of a chance. Menos would hold them in contempt for thinking such things of his beloved, if he hadn’t thought the same things himself once. Lost amongst the gnarled bodies of the Tangled Wood, he had sought to relearn the home his parents had long since abandoned for greener pastures, finding the Gladekeeper a far more welcome mistress. He had grown up well, but always wondering about the darker woods from whence he had come. So he had gone, and in his ignorance he had failed to truly respect the dangers the Shadow territory represented. He didn’t think he would have died of his injuries, surely someone would have found him eventually. Shadow was dark but they were not evil. They were just as generous and caring as any dragon from the other territories. And he had been found. But not by a dragon. |
