Biography

Rhaan

Merciless summer heat is sprawling over Ashfall Waste. No signs of life, no gentle breeze to ease the weariness. The ground is covered with rocks, burnt grass, huge intimidating lava stones and fresh lava rivers bubble in their own rhythm. The soil is dry as ash, the Sun has been enjoying its triumph for weeks.

Heatwaves create illusions above the unfriendly land. It seems like something is moving in the distance. No, the heat is playing artist again, trying to dance with the hot air and make tired eyes believe that they’re not alone.

Young Guardian is tottering over burning stones, seeking for any path to let his tired paws cool down even a little. His head is lowered, jaws half-open and powerful lungs are ventilating the air in and out, trying to catch oxygen from the stuffy air to keep the worn out body moving. He stops for a moment, looks around with jaded face, squinting dry eyes in hopes to spy anything that could mean food or water. He has been lost in these lands for weeks without encountering other dragons, not to mention finding something digestible to calm down his growling belly. He snorts to clear his nostrils from annoying dust and hay-pollen, shakes his whole body to chase away fatigue for little while and lifts his bright orange wings on his back, folding them around so they could be used to block sun from his sunburnt back. Stepping down from split chunk of basalt he takes direction towards large volcano that can be seen towering far away in the distance.

He doesn’t pay attention to the pain in his paws nor lets stabbing and growling stomach distract him. Something tells him that this is where he should go, this could be the place he has been looking for.

For some odd reason he can’t remember how he got here. Before reaching the borders of Ashfall he met several dragons who were banished from their home clans. His eyes narrow as he tries to remember the strange stories they told. Something about ancient times and deities, how dragon kind constantly fights each other in the name of honoring their god, how some dragons appear into this world with no parents, destined to follow the same paths. They seemed to be here for a while, yet they couldn’t answer all his questions.

“Trust your inner voice. Your species is blessed with strong need to Seek and you will find what you are looking for.”

Words of an old Tundra echoing in his head he started to wander towards the territory that belonged to deity called Flamecaller. He didn’t quite understand why the group couldn’t come with him but he decided not to arrange a fuss over what he doesn’t fully know.
Dizzy from the heat he drags himself to the shadow of obsidian obelisk, slams his worn body to the ground and keeps panting. He leans his head against the obelisk and closes eyes, still seeing nothing but rocks and dead yellow grass in his thoughts. He releases loud sigh and leans snout to his paws, deciding to rest a little and continue moving further at night, perhaps then he manages to encounter nocturnal creatures suitable for dinner along the way.

Scratching sounds nearby make him slowly come out of lethargic state that he managed to accomplish by not completely falling asleep in this heat. He reluctantly lifts his head to search for the source. It takes a little while before he realizes that it’s coming from the top of the obelisk. He rolls to his belly and looks up to witness one dragon gazing at him. The stranger is smaller than him and therefore he isn’t afraid of it. Instead he glares back till the stranger tilts head and speaks up with slightly feminine voice:

“Oh, you’re not dead. When I saw you wobble here I thought you were done but seems like I won’t get an easy dinner after all.”

He shakes head and turns to look back at the dragon. She reminds him of one he met weeks ago, was it called Mirror or something? He quickly observes her blood-colored wings, small talons clutching the obelisk to keep her slim body steady and whip-like tail wrapped around the rock. Slight chills run down his spine when he notices 4 orange glimmering eyes instead of 2. This has to be a Mirror.

“I believe I’m not. At least not yet. Sorry to disappoint you.”

The stranger tilts head and keeps the eye contact. Then she slips amazingly quickly behind the obelisk and walks to him around the corner, approaching carefully to his head. He watches her move and waits.

“Alright, who are you and what are you doing here?”

He forces himself to stand up, shakes some dust off and walks out of the obelisk’s shadow so he could see the great volcano in the distance. It was still there and he could feel how he wanted to go there. He smiled. He will get used to the heat, he will start loving it, he wanted to stay here. The Mirror had appeared beside him, still waiting for the answer. He turns his head towards her and replies with a little smirk:

“I am Rhaan and I have found my home.”
