Biography

KOAN
clan matriarch

Progenitor and leader of the clan, Koan is renowned for her noble fighting spirit and just rulings. Originally she hailed from the Shrieking Wilds, training as a warrior to battle the encroaching Beastclans. From these skirmishes she forged many an alliance, including that of the matriarch Valtamari of Clan Esilion. However, with each passing day, the desire to set out on her Search grew, and with the realization that her Charge was a clan that she must construct herself, she left the relative safety of the Viridian Labyrinth to journey across Sornieth and find her new home.

Accompanying her was Endymion, a dear friend since childhood, of whom insisted she was no more prepared to start a clan on her own then she was to swear loyalty to Plaguebringer. Together they trekked across terrain after terrain, searching fruitlessly for the perfect place that they may build a home together. Days became weeks and then months and the green grasses and and flourishing wildlife of their homeland became nothing more than a fleeting memory. When it began to seem as though their journey would be in vain, Endymion had a vision, claiming that the cold embrace of ice would make their clan strong and prosperous. It was then that Koan realized where they must go.

Deep in the Snowsquall Tundra, they found their home. Perhaps by an act of the Icewarden himself, a massive crevice had been cleaved through a glacier - large enough for even the mightiest Imperials to fit through. Inside, an immense cavern had been formed, big enough to house a small community of wyrms - with room to expand and dig in the monumental glacier. It was here that Koan and Endymion laid down the foundations for their new clan.

As the clan in it's entirety is her Charge, Koan is steadfast and sometimes ruthless in protecting it. Her rash and often "fight first talk later" mentality is tempered by Endymion's more rational consul, and has saved them from many conflicts in their harsh territory. Despite her intimidating persona, however, she has a warm heart and a quickness to help those less fortunate than herself - which has given rise to a tendency to allow certain new members of the clan in without her patriarch's better judgement.

In the case of her familiar, it was something of a different story. It is common knowledge amongst her clanmates that Koan holds a fierce grudge against the Beastclans, so when a Wintermane Spearman came trotting into their icy oasis, the Guardian was less than pleased. "Qannik", as she came to learn, was just as an enthusiastic as she about the whole situation - however recent events had forced him into her audience. With the shrinking of the Icefields due to the encroaching of neighboring lands, his tribe had found it increasingly difficult to maintain borders and resources needed for survival. It became increasingly more obvious than an alliance with a nearby clan of dragons would have to be made in order to save his tribe, and burying his outward revulsion for the wyrms, he approached the Clan of the Rising Glacier.

While it was agreed that an alliance of the Clan and the Tribe would be mutually beneficial, it did not mean that either ambassador were inclined to get along. Koan and Qannik disliked each other bitterly for months - bickering and insulting each other under their breath. Over time, however, the clan began to notice subtle changes in their behavior: like the times that Koan would laugh raspily at a comment made by the wintermane, or when their clan leader and her centaur companion could be seen sitting in the snow, exchanging war stories. While Qannik still insists that Koan reeks to high heaven and the dragon matriarch promises that one day the snarky centaur will be her dinner, they forged an odd friendship out of necessity.
