"Sometimes the scariest things lie within you. But you don't have to face them alone."
⚔ STORY
Even in a time when magic was purer, raw and unfettered, wild and unpredictable, not yet tamed by the beings brought forth by the gods, some things were feared. It was an old world already when the first creatures were birthed in great gouts of energy, sparked by the clashing of deities, cast into the seething seas by winds that scoured the world clean, creeping across continents that heaved and shook hoping not to be noticed by things so much bigger than they. It was a turbulent world filled with turbulent magic, and even as it began to settle, life was wary and fierce, fighting tooth and nail to survive against the elements that birthed them. Magic takes time to learn, but back then it was imperfect, and sometimes it didn't work the way it was intended. There is a rumour, little more than a child's fable, of a place brought into being with these ancient magics, a place of safety known as Woodhaven. It's said that those who dwell within are protected from curses and catastrophes and that any who would do them harm fall afoul of something old and incomprehensible. And, as with all good faerie tales, there is some truth to this one. But it is not a haven for all. Woodhaven was created to protect a single individual, a creature - so sayeth obscure historical texts - that can draw the magical life essence from those around it, sapping them of power until they shrivel into a husk and die. Woodhaven - they say - is a prison to contain this monster and protect the world from it. History (as it often is) is wrong. Agyr is just a child, an old one, perhaps by today's standards, but a child nonetheless. Cast out by those who feared what she could do to them without even meaning to and left to die in the ever-changing wilderness, Agyr was seen by many as a sign of bad things to come. Her very existence gave rise to a superstition that to see a strange unaccompanied child would bring ill luck for the next year. Of course, that's only true of unaccompanied children, Agyr found Nyralis and later Tuaxha. Her ability fueled theirs. It was a simple matter for Tuaxha to establish a boundary, after all, that's what her kind is good at. It was easy for her to turn the land into a prison guard... after a fashion and it was no effort to Nyralis to blanket her good luck over the entire canyon. And Agyr powered them, gave them strength, brought the lair to life. Sure, to continue to power that sort of magic, many creatures had to lose their lives, sacrificed to Agyr's hunger to keep her safe. But that's not her fault. There are signs to warn off trespassers, after all. And that's only of concern if you believe in ancient faerie tales in the first place. ⚔ OTHER
