Quote:
The Weeping Sickness

Some illness that was developed in the Plaguelands that only seems to infect very specific dragons. The limited scope of its contagiousness and the fact that it seems to be highly aggressive against any other microbes infecting its host rendered it a 'failure' of a plague. Whether Bereave was shunned because of being the carrier of this, or simply decided to leave the Plaguelands of her own accord is unclear, but it seems that invariably if a dragon somehow contracts the disease that they find their way to her, even if they don't stay.

The contagion causes a loss of pigmentation first, then eventually a severe softening of the scales and skin at which point they turn almost completely transparent. This makes flesh wounds a common problem, because minor impacts could cause tears in them that most dragons would have no problem with, nor even notice. That is if parts of their flesh don't simply slough off entirely to expose the muscle and veins beneath.

While the nature of the Weeping seems to make them virtually immune to any worry of infection, it does often leave the infected bleeding to some degree almost constantly, or 'weeping blood' which is where the name came from. It also tends to give the infected a very strong desire to eat raw flesh almost constantly, even if they aren't a meat-eating dragon breed. Whether this is due to some chemical alteration in the brain from the contagion itself or some sort of physio/psychological effect of the body's constant need for protein to try and repair itself isn't quite clear.

((You can blame the face-eating thing on the following conversation I had with a friend in messages about her.))

Me: I found a bloody monstrosity.

I thought you might enjoy looking at her as much as I do. XD

'Retto: Oh good God. That is... I have an overwhelming urge to scrub her clean.

Like,
Honey do you know how easily the cops will getchu if you stay so bloody after the murder I mean come one at least take a Kleenex or something

Me: I think that might have been the leftovers from the murder... and the arrest attempt... and the guys who found her during the initial manhunt... :|

'Retto: If I were a cop and saw her now, I'd have noped right out of the crime scene... And the police department... And the country.... I mean she saw my face

Me: Very tasty looking face, that. :|

'Retto: You don't start Haisyn I swear to god

She should be friends with my Reinhilde. Lady looks like a raw organ dipped in blood, herself.

Me: She needs more friends! ...Actual friends, not those face friends that wound up splattered all over her lair.

...tastyface...
.....................................
...fake friends, though I guess she has a face thing, so I don't know, that might have been her fault. :|

Background:
This is Bereave. If you give her the things a Pearlcatcher is properly supposed to eat, she'll it eat it, sure. But if left to her own devices she tends to eat the faces off of anything she can catch. Why the faces? Why is she even eating meat? No one's sure, but it's assumed it has to do with something that happened to her in the Plaguelands. No one's really sure if they want to brave her... peculiar personality to try and ask about it.

That piece of apparel only looks like a bandana. It is actually a sling she uses to carry her pearl in when she's moving from place to place on the ground, as it is rather cumbersome for walking. Or hunting. Nobody really knows what sort of leather she made it out of... or really wants to know.
