Biography

She snarled. “And what makes you think that I’d let this slide?”

The dragon before her trembled. “I-I don’t know. I was expecting…”

“Expecting what?” A hiss escapes her mouth, slithering into his ears. “Expecting me not to put up a fight?” Her hand tightened around his arm. “You think you can pick on me just because I look fragile? I’m not surprised.”

“I didn’t-”

“You did.” Her eyes burned into his, a captifying yet milky gaze. Eyes that knew. Her claws sunk into his arm, eliciting a yelp. Dots of blood sprung up from between his scales, bright red rivulets as they found their paths down his body. He tried to start away from her, but her claws only sunk deeper.

All of a sudden, he twisted around and snapped his jaws only inches away from her snout. Startled, the dragoness slammed the full weight of her tail against the side of his skull. A dull thud echoed as his head hit the ground.

A sense of dread crept up into her stomach as if it were a basketful of spiders. Little feet scampering and scrabbling inside of her chest. Her heart palpitated. Now what?

The silence is immense.

I was attacked, wasn’t I? It was self defense, wasn’t it? I didn’t kill him in cold blood…

The blackness of the night enveloped her in its ethereal judgement. Silence. It was her and her alone. Her against them all.

She wrapped her hands around one of his arms, and strained to tug him. She managed. Dragging his deadweight body across the ground, her thoughts spiraled in and out of reason, if reason could be easily defined in a scenario such as this one. Outside, it was cold. The frost hugged her feet and clung in clumps to her fur. An oppressive breeze skewered into her nose, a cold so sharp that it almost halted her breath. When she breathed out, a wreath of frosted smoke surrounded her head, as if she were a damned angel.

Burying him wasn’t easy.

The earth was frozen solid, and embedded with rocks and sticks, as well as the occasional snake. But she had attention to detail. Once she was done, each crumb of dirt was in its right place. An area already struggling to inhabit the grass, a few missing blades wouldn’t be noticed. The night’s fresh snow would re-freeze and hide any tracks she had made until they were long gone.

And now, it was time to go back inside. To sit down, and to do anything but think. To perhaps make a warm meal. Get some work done. And rest.

There is a story in everything: in life, and in death. Sometimes, many words must be spoken to properly bask in their light. And sometimes, it is wiser to sit in silence.
