One of Wideclaw's, well, claws tapped the floor absentmindedly. Every time it did a click echoed through the halls of the school, now empty for once. In front of him stood a heavy, wooden door painted with the symbol of the school. The plaque haphazardly nailed to it read:

Keep Locked

Why it was locked he had no clue, but today he'd find out.
When the sounds of another dragon's steps sounded down the hallway his eyes flicked to the right. There he saw a dragon most just called the Janitor, he had a ring of keys hanging off his side which is exactly what Wideclaw was looking for.

Nodding to the seemingly confused janitor he very carefully grabbed the keys and hid them under his hat, pretending to scratch his head. The janitor didn't seem to notice as they continued to prowl the hallway.

Once the janitor's footsteps faded into the distance, Wideclaw brought the keyring out from under his hat and finally opened the door - after many, many tries. Of course the last key he tried was the one for the closet.

The closet was dark at first, but using a simple lighting spell he summoned a small flame that floated in the middle of the room. Wideclaw walked into the closet and was greeted with shelves upon shelves of....hats! He had found the jackpot of wizard hats.
Each one seemed unique, there were patterned ones, ones with secret pockets, metal ones, some seemed to be made of pure magic.

Grabbing some of his favorites off the shelves he noticed there didn't seem to be any signs it belonged to someone specific. Many dragons label their belongings, to avoid this type of scenario. Wideclaw carefully folded some of the hats down into small circles of fabric. He only took his favorites, leaving the rest for someone else to find.

As he left the room the janitor was standing outside the door. They seemed annoyed, but not at the hats. They pointed to the ring of keys still held in Wideclaw's claw. Giving a small smile, the wildclaw handed them over. The janitor seemed satisfied with this as they took the ring and walked away once more.

And just like that, the greatest hat heist of the century was completed.
