____Reason blocked the freezing wind with his body, hopefully keeping most of it from reaching the egg below him. He curled his head down, hoping to offer it just a tad bit more warmth in the frigid landscape.
He had found this egg abandoned in the wastes of the ice domain while on his own short journey, assumingly because it was like no egg he’d ever seen before. Red-brown and riged. Some part of him couldn't leave it there. Utilizing his expert knowledge of caring for hatchlings, he knew it was close, maybe a day or less from hatching. He let out soft huffs, breathing on it warmly and carefully. No matter how many eggs hatched in his care or how many hatchlings swung on his antlers, he could never let go of the idea that these small things were more fragile than life, as hard as the shells usually were.

He closed his eyes, falling into a light, cold sleep. Unsure of how many minutes or hours had passed, though, he heard the familiar small, sharp cracking of the shell. His ear flicked and he lifted his head just a bit, looking at the rigid shell crack. It was so strange to see, illuminated by the lantern hanging off his antler, the texture of the egg split seemingly so violently for such a small thing. No part of this shell was soft, like the Light eggs he’d become so accustomed to watching over. It and the fact that the egg was vaguely warm to the touch was likely the reason this hatchling had survived so long in the freezing, snowblown landscape.
He watched and very, very slowly and gently, slipped his massive paw under it, careful of his growing claws and gave it a gentle support. “Easy...no need to rush, you’re safe..” he muttered over the wind to it.
Reason gave a small jump when suddenly and with loud, small cracks, a tiny dragon head sprung from the top of the shell. It looked like a..bogsneak? No, maybe more of a tundra? Too long a snout. This really was a breed he had never seen before. But only a couple years earlier, no one had seen Gaolers like himself in millenia.
Finally, the baby pushed from the shell, and it was absolutely not a breed seen before. With tiny, arm-like wings and upward curled horns jutting out, it curled around the edge of the egg and pulled itself out, squealing at the world around it.
Wait..he recognized it. No he didn’t. He’d never seen it before but he had. When the baby turned its head toward him with a bright orange stare, he knew why.

Fire. Ice dampening the flames. Angry claws slashing through a shaggy mane dripping with blood in an ancient, violent, devastating war.
Reason gasped and came back to the snow. And the tiny baby of an ancient, violent breed snuggling against his paw pads for all the warmth he could offer. It shivered and whined, eyes shut against the bitter snow.
Reason stared, reconciling briefly with flashes of memory that weren’t his. They weren’t his...and this baby wasn’t the ancients that had killed his oldest kin. It was a child, alone in a freezing cold world, unsure and new. Well, almost alone.
He very gingerly tucked the baby to his chest mane, keeping a close eye as it shivered slower and slower, breathing eventually calming. “You’re safe...you’re safe..” he muttered and shook off the brief memories invading his mind. They weren’t his and he wouldn’t claim them. They were both new incarnations of two ancient, warring breeds no longer at war. This world would be peaceful and Reason would see to it.
He wrapped the baby in a spare scarf from his haunch-bag and tucked it into one of the deep curls of his antler, running and lighting the way back to Dawn Beach with the lantern. He would not make the same mistakes his ancestors had. This world would be at peace.

Ice Subspecies - Reindeer

Lore ::
The original Reindeers were a group of normal hatchling Imperials born right around the time of the Crystalline Gala. They were very excited about the festivities and gifts they heard came during the Gala! Days before the festival was suppose to begin, these hatchlings wandered off and became lost in the Ice Fields for weeks. By the time other dragons found them, the Gala was well over with and the hatchlings had missed everything, there were no more gifts. Sad, the hatchlings began to collect their own version of gifts. The collecting turned into finding(sometimes unknowingly stealing…) whatever they could and bringing it back to their lairs. They kept collecting and collecting until there wasn’t even room to sleep. Realizing that there was no more room to place their new treasures they gave all of the things they had collected to hatchlings without any treasures and started the process all over again.

Extra ::
Social: The Reindeers tend to live in small groups of no more than eight. They are shy and nervous around adult outsiders, but very kind to hatchlings. They are rarely seen by adults outside of their own Subspecies. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of them collecting items or giving them out to hatchlings. They avoid confrontation at all costs and if they accidentally take something of yours will return it immediately when informed!

Lairs::
They are secluded creatures that live in caves around the Ice Fields. The caves tend to be quite large in order to fit all of their treasures.
