Biography

Clan Historian

The founding:
The first king was Aleph. He split away from his clan in arcane after receiving a message from The Lightweaver that he would find fortune and enlightenment for his people in the Sunbeam Ruins. He traveled through the wilderness with a couple dozen folks loyal to him, following along a ley line that ended at a portal. Activating the portal, they first ended up in the Forum of the Obscured Crescent and then reverse engineered the magic needed to activate another nearby portal to the Hewn City. Lost and low on supplies, Aleph allied his forces with local Dunhoof Centaurs and established a small but productive trading post among the tall redwoods north of the western Sunbeam River.

Establishment of the Amber City:
Aleph's first descendants, blessed with The Lightweaver's magic, spun dwellings of crystallized sap from the trees towering over their new home. They built low to the ground to accommodate the beastfolk they traded with, and later dug lodgings into the earth to support the weight of cargo passing through their town. Breaking soil drew up a particular magic, leaking out like springwater, and the royal family felt a tug connecting them to this line. Their magic grew stronger when they aligned themselves with the underground river of native magic, and the enchantment holding their sap in place transmuted it into pure, shining amber. Aleph's children painted the walls of their home with amber and delved further into the soil to explore the caverns and lakes below. Their amber-covered town grew as the ley line was mapped and studied, and their population, and wealth, swelled.

The Amber Kingdom:
The City becomes a kingdom and claims land surrounding the trade outpost as its own. Towns are founded in the northeast and the south. Dunhoof centaurs and independent Longneck traders live peacefully above the surface of the City, which is now entirely underground. Other beastfolk begin to trade with the clan using the friendly Dunhoofs and Longnecks as a middle man to avoid interacting with the clan in person. The City produces some of the finest textiles east of the Sea of A Thousand Currents as cultures share materials and techniques. Merchants, tycoons, and barons run a shadow government and control the treaties and alliances the Kingdom forms with neighboring clans. The royal family takes control by establishing a council of publicly elected advisers: this council, the members of which must swear a vow of poverty, can support or deny the current ruler's decisions if a vote is unanimous.

The Great Cataclysm:
All that amber melts and everything goes pear shaped. Only Berthold remains from the royal bloodline. Our story starts here.
