Biography
\ \ \ \ It was quiet and cool. The first stirrings of warmth and awareness began to form. Faint traceries of light began to filter through the dark waters off the shore of the sunbeam ruins while the sky lightened, fading from a deep midnight blue to a pale lavender, bright pink fluffy clouds took on a violent red hue setting the sky on fire. As lavender began to transition to celestina a brilliant green flash lit up the sky for a split second, a faint glimmer of the sun finally visible on the horizon, they were awake. |
\ \ \
Long shadows still clung sulkily to trees and crumbling ruins, not quite ready to concede that night had ended and it was the sun's turn to reign supreme. They emerged from the cold dark of dawn, their feathers cool with moisture, their legs unsteady. The gathering rays drying their feathers and warming their hide. They fluffed their feathers and snapped playfully at a lurking shadow that had wandered too close.
|
|
\ \ \ Questing rays of mid-morning light playfully routed the shadows out of the open spaces, confining them under blades of dew-laden grass and chasing them into deep caves where the light could not follow. Those bold bits of shadow that refused to be chase burned in his presence, shriveling into ashes and drifted like dustmotes in the wind. He gave chase once more. |
\ \
He gazed up at Mother-Sun and sang of their triumph over the shadows. The shadows were routed and confined, everything the light touched was their domain. He spread his glorious wings and took off to patrol his territory curiously examining the awakened world as he passed over, lesser beings large and small flourished in the brilliant sunshine, as they should, Light was the Lifebringer, these lesser beings should hail Mother-Sun’s Brilliance. All was as it should be.
|
|
\ \ Something was wrong. He stooped down to examine a thicket of shadows, the writhing mass growing and sending out tendrils of darkness. He hissed at the knot battering it with his wings attempting to burn it out like he had the earlier shadows. The knot retaliated, sending whips of shadow at him, so cold it burned. His feathers began to smoke and cool. He screamed in agony, his Light dimming as he struggled to break free, the shadows draining him of his strength |
\ \ \
He fell, the shadows rejoiced. Tendrils of shadow and wisps of darkness hunted the rays now that their Champion had fallen, he was nothing more than a crumbling pile of smoldering ash. The tiny rays of light fled to the west seeking safety with the retreating Mother-Sun, spitting sparks at the encroaching shadows burning the frontrunners of the Shadow Horde all the while retreating, mourning their Champion.
|
But morning would come again, and the battle would begin anew, their Champion would rise from the ashes to once more combat the Shadow Horde anew.
Day in and day out.
A battle neverending.
