In this world magic can be used freely, and those who excel in it occasionally create beings that could not excist without it. There are many entities like that- that could only have come to be trough years upon years of magic rituals. Though those dragons who do so are are skilled at using magic, sometimes they unleash things that should not be. Some are harmful, others will aid you…

...and then there are those who just… observe….
Spirodon was born from years upon years of a certain burial ritual in the viridian labyrinth. Said ritual required three mages to use magic in order to tie a soul to a sapling, as to keep the recently deceased near. What the dragon didn’t know is that despite their best efforts, all they did was create magically enchanted trees and let a bunch of magic- fueled by grief- float and stream throughout the area. Magic that created the large dragon-like entity.

For years the entity watched, growing more powerful as more and more rituals were being held. The magic was casted with a purpose, a purpose Spirodon could only grasp after years of observation. Their purpose… it had to do with binding souls to trees…

And so… the entity made of magic and grief tried to do just that.

Dragons may be skilled at magic, there are very few who can precieve if what it does is what it’s SUPPOSED to do. Spirodon- an entity made primarily of magic, could. They found the flaws within their being, and discovered how to do what living dragons couldn’t. After they had learned, they chose to appear before the clan’s strongest magic user, revealing themself as an entity of magic and grief and teaching them the flaws in their rituals. They taught them how to truly bind souls to trees, and watched as slowly but surely the clan began to change their rituals- now also honoring them as if he was a deity.

Though they served his purpose… Spirodon felt as if they had to leave. The entity began to wander, feeling a strange attraction towards areas where sooner or later thousands would die. During their travels they met many dragons who were interested in their powers and abilities- not to mention their entire being, and there were many who asked if they could accompany the large creature on his journey. None ever did really follow them though, for their destination would always be some place others feared- not to mention their awareness of what would happen on those specific locations was enough to drive many away.

Though eventually they would no longer be traveling alone.

One one location where disaster struck, Spirodon met a fellow entity created of magic. However unlike them, she was composed of magic and morbid curiosity. Where the other went, dragons would die strange, unnatural deaths.

And so Spirodon followed the other entity, gaining the nickname ‘Death’s shadow’.

Though the two weren’t aware of it, they exchanged magic frequently, which… made five other entities…

Curious about these three, both Spirodon and the entity they were following paused to study these undefined beings. The magic that brought them to life was… honetly used without a purpose, and so these beings could define themselves. Though their existence would always have a hint of something dark and ominous with it, they were free to shape their life without feeling urges and desires to follow one path.

The second began to get the same obsession as Spirodon, but instead of binding souls to one place, they carried them around, allowing them to be ‘reborn’ by letting the souls inhabit eggs of dragons who would other ways be stillborn. The entity created a weapon able to rip the souls of those who were dying, and hold the souls until they found a suitable egg to deposit one in.

The third was interested in how long one was supposed to live, and always ended up frustrated when something happened that cut off one’s life before its time or a dragon lived way longer than they were supposed to. They worked on preserving or ending lives, making sure no one would live shorter or longer than they should’ve.

The fourth one had gained a fascination with several different burial rituals, and tried to copy what he saw. However, without a mentor to teach them they didn’t get too far. And so, they disguised themselves as a red dragon with yellow markings, making it seem as if he was normal dragon who just wanted to learn how to properly embalm a body and such.

The youngest was... diffrend from the rest, and took after the entity Spirodon was following a whole lot more. However unlike the elder entity the fourth was anything but calm and calculating, prefering to attack quickly and leave little to no room for defence. She's also the only one who prefered to be treated as a female, prefering if others used she/her pronouns for her, which took some time to get used to for the others.

Though none of these entities was really bound to the others, they did form a sort of family… Trough the exploits of their ‘children’ both Spirodon and the other entity were influenced into feeling things like ‘emotion’, ‘empathy’ and various other things they had not experienced before. The four entities who did not appear dragon-like yet began to slowly make themselves look like dragons as well, curious as to what it was like to be among the living in a solid form.

They got… mixed reactions.

Dragons frequently commented on how it was so nice of them to 'adopt' dragons as their own, or how it took true intelect to brew a bogsneak egg, or how that breed change must've cost a lot. Spirodon got rather... anxious about it, since they did not 'adopt' the entities, However the other older entity simply came up with a story to make it believeable that all three of the younger entites were in fact their children.

Obviously originally Spirodon had just been a coatl while she had been a bogsneak. Their oldest two had been born while they had those breeds. After a while they had both bought breed changes for themselves and changed to a guardian and a skydancer. Their youngest was born and had turned out as a skydancer, who had frequently scattered himself in order to get his red colors! Since the youngest was never present, they never really spoke of her.

Despite the cover up Spirodon feels awkward about lying to others, so they let the other older entity do all the talking while they silently stay by their side.

For years the family stayed together, but as time went on they began to drift apart, only meeting up once every five years or so. Spirodon still followed the other older entity, but rarely saw his 'children' outside of the reunions they had.

Despite this, both Spirodon and the other older entity are... worried about the oldest of their offspring. Corrupted, ruthless and highly manipulative... a broken vessel for the shade to inhabit. He was defeated, locked away and the other offspring each got a turn to watch over it. The two oldest know of the evil that dwells within, but the younger two didn't exsist when it happened, and are vulnerable to the oldest his manipulations.

[Trivia]
[ Spirodon doesn't really have a gender, though they are more masculine and appears as a male guardian to most.]
[ When leaving the viridian labyrinth for the first time they began to bind souls to other things: gems, sticks, bones... you name it, they probably bound a soul to it at some point ]
