Biography
Before meeting Zahla, Chemosit was a feared demon known for setting fire to forests and farmland. He was a dark and malicious nihilist that mocked the idea of hope and believed all things would eventually turn to ash.
One spring, Chemosit came upon Zahla's garden and burned it to the ground. But instead of scrambling for water or crying, she simply stared serenely at the flames. The next year, Chemosit came back to Zahla's garden and found it had doubled in size. Angry at the defiant foliage, he threatened to burn it once again, yet she still made no attempt to stop him.
"Why do you not try to save your precious plants? Have you accepted that they are destined to wither and die?"
Zahla explained that sometimes destruction was needed in order to create. The ashes from last year's fire had fertilized the soil. Dead plants and weeds were burned away to make room for healthy growth. The plants that had grown back received more sunlight and were stronger.
Chemosit was so amazed that something as violent as fire could ever be nurturing, he asked Zahla to show him more. She taught him to make citronella candles to ward off insects, that heat could cauterize wounds, and how ashes could be mixed with egg yolk to paint murals on the lair walls.
This was the first time anyone had showed him such kindness and patience. On that day, Chemosit pledged to only use his element for creation. Now at the end of every growing season, the clan gathers around as Zahla's garden is set ablaze, so that the cycle of death and rebirth can begin once again.
