Biography
Rat
Deckhand
Deckhand
The ship creaks silently where it stays docked and as you come closer, you can feel as though you're being watched but you see nothing other than busy dock workers when, suddenly, a form seems to materialize on the deck of the ship peering out at you. Rat watches you for a moment before he disappears belowdeck and, even though he's out of sight, you don't shake the presence watching you.

To be called a rat, while not the worst offense possible, was still an insult. Abandoned at the auction house, Rat was just as his name implied. Without any dragon to teach him otherwise, he scavenged among trash, stole what he could, and was treated just like vermin. The time he spent living in and around the auction house allowed him to advance his inherent ability to sneak. While his actions made him behave more like a chameleon Rat was known as the silent, filthy, and lair-less sneak for some time. While there were other dragons like him, Rat was one of the rare few that didn't get caught at all. Being a hatchling though, had its "fallbacks" and Rat was nearly adopted more than once. He never spoke a word and instead managed to slip between the claws of those seeking to purchase and take him away. There was only one time that he didn't manage to escape immediately and it had been a trap set by one of the vendors. The dragon had hired someone to lure Rat out and when he was caught, the furious wildclaw meant to chop Rat's tongue off and the digits of his foreclaws. He only managed to succeed in chopping off two of the left claw's digits because Rat retaliated by biting the vendor's foreclaw that was holding him down. When he was released he scurried away before any more harm could be done. Unfortunately, Rat couldn't stay in hiding too long. The fear in his heart and the constant oozing of blood from the remains of his two digits brought him to the docks of the auction house where he was forced to wash the stumpy remains, except he had been followed. The vendor, a wildclaw by the name of Scion, had followed the trail of blood to him and Rat was forced to run. The wildclaw pursued him and when the bogsneak hatchling turned to see how far away the wildclaw was he ran into the legs of Captain Vesper. It was here that the vendor stopped short. He demanded that Vesper step back and let him continue dealing with his "nuisance" but, after a moment's consideration, Vesper refused. When the vendor pushed the subject the captain drew his sword and pressed it against the vendor's neck and forced the other wildclaw to retreat. Yet, Rat wasn't free to go about his business anymore. When he started to leave Vesper threatened him with the cold edge of the sword against his spine. The bogsneak was forced to return to the captain's ship. It was a "debt he was required to pay" as Vesper dubbed it and Rat did, but not by choice. He learned how to follow orders and the jargon of the pirates though he behaved much like he did on land. He was the only ship rat large enough to pose a problem on board though he didn't. It became habit for the first mate and captain to call his name and command him without him being visible as the dragon seemed to manifest to follow the orders given. He never spoke and hardly seemed to exist on the ship except for when his presence was commanded. While the carpenter knew a hull from stem to stern it was thought that Rat knew everything else from why the boards creaked to what scurried in the darkness. It was he who scared stowaways off the ship and when they were at port and most of the crew were out and about, it was Rat who stayed aboard and made sure there were no curious dragons wandering about. When it came to fighting, Rat wasn't an average combatant by any means. He relied on sneaking more than anything else but when he was forced to fight someone else he was quick on his claws and would remain mostly defensive by dodging attacks and delivering quick blows with his blades. The blows were scratches and small lacerations that, if the fight lasted long enough, took their toll on Rat's opponent. Despite having sailed with Vesper for some time, Rat has yet to kill any dragon nor does he feel his debt has been fully paid to the captain. Relationships space
