Once her house was the most powerful, checked only the royal seal-- and oh, how Jessamine wanted that seal. Craved that crown, envied the high steeples and the gold roofs but mostly, mostly, wanted to rip the damn thing down and build a sanctuary. Create something better; not a monument to be feared and respected, but one to be adored and thanked. One to heal and guard, not just watch.
In the end, she ripped her own home apart. Her children fled to their deities in fear; her husband escaped too slowly. Something more clings to her now. Where once lay kind ambition, colder intents arise. Her house grows dark; the curtains are drawn and the servants sent away, addled and whispering shade, shade!
Jessamine no longer takes guests. They say that stepping into the house is a death sentence, but they don't say it out loud of course. The walls, the shadows have ears. And shadows are very powerful indeed.
