Safely hidden away behind a narrow crack in the walls of the Marauders' lair, treasures and riches can be found. The room is lit only by a few torches, their ghostly flames flickering and dancing on the heaps of gold and gems, creating illustrious and mesmerizing patterns. This is the most treasured room of the Marauders', here they keep all their riches, won in countless raids and battles, and they’d be fools to leave them unattended.

Buried underneath the glimmering heaps, a dragon keeps watch, his scales shimmering in a shade similar to that of the countless riches he calls home. His spotted hide creates a confusing pattern that mimics the play of light and dark created by the flickering fires of the torches. An unwary dragon might not even notice his giant serpentine form unless they happened to stumble over him, and those who manage to sneak into the chamber, convinced of having come in here unnoticed, will be surprised of the sudden movements of the heaps of gold. Like a shimmering river the coins will tumble and fall and reveal the form of the imperial, and in a flurry of blue and gold, he will chase the intruder away.

For that is his job – Sunchaser is tasked with keeping the Marauders' treasure safe, and they could not have chosen anyone else who would be better suited to do so. He has always loved shimmering things and found himself attracted to gold and gems more than to anything else. As a hatchling, he would refuse to play with his toys if they weren’t adorned with glittering gems and make a fuss if someone took them away from him; and as he grew older, he started actively collecting sparkling things, meticulously looking after his collection and making sure that none of the things he owned were poorly fabricated fakes. No one was surprised when he chose Ignis as his partner, for her hide glimmers and sparkles just like the gold he loves so much. In fact, he loves it so much and guards the Marauders' treasure so thoroughly that his clan mates have started joking that he loves it more than his own children – and maybe they aren’t completely wrong.

And woe be the clan mate who tries to sneak out of the treasury with some extra treasure to buy themselves some nice things, or the clan mate who loses any treasure on their way, and be it just a single coin – because as much as his clan mates like to joke about his obsession with glittering things, they know and fear his wrath all too well. There is no dragon in the clan who knows more foul words and ways to ridicule and shame a dragon than Sunchaser does, and he has no problem with openly shaming them in front of everybody else. He remembers every coin lost, and he will make the poor dragon’s life hell, and he will not rest until the poor soul has gained back each and every coin, if not twice the amount that was lost.

Even without his habit of being maybe just a little too overprotective of the clan’s treasure, he is generally not a fun dragon to be around. He seems to be always grumpy and overly serious, and gets offended easily, even by things that aren’t even meant as an insult. It has to mean something when Loki, the clan’s grumpy elder, approves of Sunchaser and uses him as a good example in his speeches about “the youth of these days”. It comes as no surprise then, that he is not too popular among his peers.

And it doesn’t help that something seems to be up with him. His father Asphodel was a mysterious figure, and many have said that there was something odd about him. Asphodel’s voice had been like a song, and patches of his hide had an unnatural darkness to them. Some rumored that he hadn’t been a dragon at all, but some other supernatural being. He wasn’t a member of the clan, but he had a strange fascination with Banana, and thus visited from time to time. And since he had always brought presents for the clan with him, he was a well-loved guest, despite the rumors that circulated about him. One day however, he succumbed to a strange illness, and all that was left of him was a strange egg, covered in glowing snails, which Banana took into her care – and out of that egg hatched Sunchaser.

To this day, the glowing snails (who continue to be a growing problem) seem to have a strange fascination with Sunchaser. Wherever he goes, they are bound to show up en masse eventually, and when he falls asleep, they start crawling all over him. When he was younger he would freak out whenever one would get in a claw’s reach of him, but over time he grew accustomed to them and nowadays simply uses lavender oil to keep them off, for they seem to hate the smell of it.

Though he might not admit it, he loves his mother dearly, even though her silly hobby does embarrass him. His step-father Spencer however he will not speak with, and he refuses to accept the goofy spiral as a superior figure. While Sunchaser never knew his real father, he has heard stories about him, and the thought of that glorious dragon being replaced by a puny spiral who can’t even find his own place in the clan is outrageous to him. He cannot understand why his mother fell in love with Spencer, and he wants nothing to do with him or his half-siblings.
