She had once been named Knihovna. She had a loving mate, a place in a thriving clan, and was happy with her life. One day, her mate was struck down by a ridgeback during a skirmish with a neighboring clan. Sensing something was wrong, Knihovna rushed to the battle site, and found her mate dead. Ashamed of her failure to keep her bond safe, she left her clan behind. Months passed as Knihovna secluded herself in a cave, mourning her loss, and learning about a place where dragons go after death. She wasted away buying book after book about this world of the deceased. Knihovna was convinced that there was a way to bring back the dead. After listening to years of rumors, and reading countless books filled with promises and myths, she traveled to the Starfall Isles in search of a necromancer. When she finally found one, the necromancer told her that she could get to the land of the dead. However, once she found who she was looking for, she would have to fly back to the world of the living as quickly as possible, or her soul would be forever trapped there. “After reaching the land of the dead,” continued Sadid, throwing an iridescent powder into the air, creating ghost-like images that danced and swirled with her words. “it is said that as Knihovna searched, decades passed, but to her, it only seemed like a manner of minuets”. When Knihovna found her mate, she was overjoyed. But something was wrong, her mate was rotting away. Not only in body, but also in spirit. Remembering the necromancer's warning, Knihovna took hold of her mate, and tried to fly her to the surface. But her mate begged her to stop, telling her that death was a part of life, that she had to accept what happened, and move on. But Knihovna refused, telling her mate that life was not worth living without her. No sooner had she said this, Agowilt's face grew blank, and in a strange, gargling voice that made Knihovna's soul shudder said. ‘Join me then’. |
Horrified at her mate’s sudden change, Knihovna tried to drop her, but her mate had gripped her tightly by the hips, and would not let her go. Her mate’s face twitched, and the slightest expression of pity crossed their face. Her mate told her that the Guardian of Souls would have pity, and let her return to the living world. But at a price. The Guardian of Souls spoke through her. ‘You will no longer be part of the living’ they bubbled, ‘but neither will you be dead. You are cursed for leaving your world to retrieve something that is not yours to have.' “And so, the Guardian of Souls let Knihovna go, but renamed her as Vaja, so she would never remember who she used to be. Vaja now haunts this world forever, unable to die” Sadid whispered, sticking her claws into the smoke, tempting more images into the air. “But it is said that she can sometimes be seen returning the lost to their homes. Although, it is more common to see her guiding dragons into an impenetrable fog, never to be seen again”. |
