Biography
Taranis is one of the defenders of the lair. He has fought many battles alongside his best friend Anthracite. Taranis is miserable and his recklessness has often led to injury. His refusal to seek out proper healing has led to numerous infections and a gradual transformation into a rotten husk of his former majesty. As he continues to engage in self destructive acts, those closest to him try to convince him that he is loved and wanted. His depression is what leads to unnecessary conflict with dangerous adversaries in the wastes. Taranis is constantly wounded and bleeding from his endless sparring and self harm. Public opinion of Taranis is quite varied depending on how well one might know him and how long they have been in the lair. Those who were around for the birth of Andraste's children would likely understand his behaviour more than a new arrival.
Taranis and Andraste had developed a brief romance that resulted in Andraste having beautiful offspring that she would lovingly raise. Taranis confessed his feelings for Anthracite to Andraste shortly after she laid her eggs. He also had feelings for her, but he could not handle having both at the same time. He was conflicted and could not be with her knowing he was in love with his best friend. He felt as though he had harmed her in a way that deserved a severe punishment, which is what set him down an even more extreme path. His entire body drips with death and decay because he feels as though he has ruined Andraste's life.
Taranis is the finest example of a dragon that feels truly defeated in all ways. He wants the end to come and he is looking for an unmerciful opponent that will best him and leave him to die. Anthracite and Andraste both care about him, wanting this cycle to end. Watching Taranis destroy himself gradually has been one of the most difficult and traumatic experiences for many of the lair's residents.
Andraste would stop visiting him after her collapse. She was unable to function correctly due to emotional and physical strain from all manner of problems she had endured alone for so long. In the first rare moment of clarity Taranis had in the longest time, he would travel from his den to Andraste's. He remained there for two weeks. Merely sitting at her side was enough to make her smile again, something he failed to appreciate before. Not only was Andraste happy, but Taranis had begun to realise that he felt comfort at her side. So much had changed since they first arrived in Delphine's little lair and now it had grown into a flourishing haven for those in need. Taranis and Andraste had also changed a great deal in that time. They had suffered much and no matter what happened, they had found their way back together. Their struggles were far from over but they no longer had to face them alone.
Taranis and Andraste are mates, their bond reforged and unbreakable.
