Rubilax

Rubilax hatched in a proud, mighty lair within Stormcatcher's domain, in the Carrion Canyon. His clan was one of proud ancestry, and brilliant electricians and inventors. The very power of his god was imprinted in the circuit patterns of his body!

... he couldn't stand it. There was so much expectation, so many eyes looking at him, waiting for him to live up to everyone who'd come before him. It rotted at his gut, it ate away at his heart. So he did the only thing a young hatchling could think of doing; he ran away.

The first week, it seemed the best thing he could ever do. He'd packed plenty of fish and water with him, after all.

The second week, it was the worst thing he'd ever done. Rubilax was at the shores of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and the humidity in the air made static arc between his spines. He was cold, he was scared, and he was homesick. The food he borrowed from other dragons and beastclans was barely enough to sustain him.

But then the third week, he'd made it to the Tangled Wood. Scary noises echoed from the shadows, but the glowing mushrooms were beautiful and the stars sparkling through the thick canopy mesmerized him. Rubilax found himself drawn to a spot of glowing red. Once closer he found that it was a bonfire, of a local clan of shadow dragons feasting and celebrating.

Nervously Rubilax approached and hesitantly asked one of the coatls, a female with relatively dark fur and bright, speckled green wings. She just looked at him, confused, and did a strange little dance with her paws.

It was then that the rest of the clan noticed him, and hurriedly made sure to give him their hospitality. Rubilax was quiet and shy as they introduced themselves - apparently the coatl was deaf and spoke paw language - and asked him to introduce himself.

"Um.. m-my name's Rubilax."

Eventually, amidst his eating, the skydancer Bahram and his assistant Lyra offered him a place to stay more permanently. Rubilax perked up eagerly, even as members of the clan looked at each other nervously. He readily accepted.

Living with the Clan of the Hour of Twilight is everything he could've wished for. Nobody to look down on him when the smallest thing went wrong, they'd dug up plenty of sand for him to clean his scales, and so much food he could burst! Rubilax loves it here. Busy busy busy, that's what he is. Never enough hours in the day; part of him thinks about purchasing a runed parchment to transform into a Snapper; he could get so much more done if he didn't need to sleep! There's helping Oceanhunter and his mate Sapphire tunnel through the caves to expand the lair, sunbathing, cleaning, and working on his electronics.

The last one, he's pleasantly surprised he can do at all. But good fortune smiled upon him; that coatl, Ember, traded treasure for blacksmithing equipment, and it wasn't hard to follow the money and get himself some wires and circuitboards.

When not busy, Rubilax is sneaking off with the other lightning dragon in the clan, Capacaron. They're romantically involved, and like spending hours striding around outside in the darkness, beneath the stars, talking. Or laying together, one of their wings over the other.

Yes, leaving home was definitely a great idea.
