Alcaeus and Charaxa are the co-founders of Clan Lambent, now located on the outskirts of the Beacon of the Radiant Eye.
When Alcaeus and Charaxa met, Alcaeus was a Fae dragon. An encounter with a strange ruin in the Hewn City transformed him to a Spiral. Though it was disorienting at first, Alcaeus is pleased to be larger and somewhat sturdier.
Other dragons sometimes find Alcaeus unnerving. He has the intense energy of a Spiral, but he speaks in a monotone and has strange, stiff body language -- holdovers from when he was a Fae. Alcaeus doesn't mind this and sometimes uses it to unnerve whoever he's negotiating with.
Alcaeus calls himself cautious and practical; it may be more accurate to call him 'paranoid.' He is obsessive about maintaining the clan's secrets and protecting its lands. However, the dragons of the clan respect that Alcaeus's intensity means that they are, for the most part, safe. The warrior sub-clan known as the zir-clan protects the clan's territories against Beastclan incursions quite reliably. The clan's mages know that they'll be given all the ingredients they need, and the space and time to study and experiment, so long as they help the clan when necessary. And, of course, when Alcaeus comes to trust them enough, the mages also know he will eventually trust them with the obsessive occult research that he and Charaxa have pursued together since they first met.
Both Alcaeus and Charaxa are devoted to the Lightweaver. Alcaeus himself is a serious student of magic, though he is hardly the most adept mage of the clan. As far as most know, the grand project of the clan is uncovering a piece of hidden magic that may, or may not, exist. Then again, if it does exist, Alcaeus is the sort of dragon that would make it seem likely to really be a fool's errand -- or it may be the case that Alcaeus has already unravelled the mystery he seems so obsessed with, and pretends to still be searching for answers to mislead those he does not trust. It's impossible to know, but so long as Clan Lambent is safe, stable, and well-fed, most of the clan doesn't particularly care.
