You would think a dragon that claims to be born again and again would have no need for the key to immortality. Paean travels far and wide in search of rumors, studies, and evidence of ever-lasting life. Each time he dies, he returns yet again with the determination to find out how to stop dying. It is not that he feels as if he's on a time limit, he's just tired of having to go through the whole process of getting old and being born all over again.

Many regard his claims as sarcasm or lies, as it's not possible to prove whether his tales are true. He cares little for what others think of them, even if they laugh and dub him insane. The few friends he's made often never see him again after the first time they've met. He avoids sticking around them. Again and again, he puts up a lone wolf act no matter what his background for his current life is. He knows better than to make connections with others.

His consciousness outlives every one of them, so why bother making friends if he's just going to go through the pain of watching them perish over and over again? He'd much rather have the company of cats-who remain distant enough for him to not become too attached.

Reincarnation
Paean claims to have lived at least nine other lives. Each time he's died, he returns as once again as a hatchling to a different mother. Throughout his childhood, he gradually regains memories of his previous lives until he returns to the dragon he once was. He's been many different shapes and sizes, but the only consistency is that he is always an imperial, allergic to cats, and holds a strong bond with cats despite the allergy.
