xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx♕ F A R F A L L A ETYMOLOGY - Farfalla: Italian - ""The Butterfly"" The Girl Twin Fete of the Fates performer: Acrobat Double Act Impatient | Obsessive | Fiery ╰ bio template by squidragon adapted by Katalist
Formerly of The Tribe Pyre
Swamp Denizen Reincarnated Artisan faction Family and Friends Vipera Her brother, her twin. They may have changed skins over the years but never their loyalty. |
Nothing Gold Can Stay Robert Frost, 1874 - 1963 Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. Why must Autumn be so beautiful... Everything is dying.

Farfalla and Vipera never needed to be told anything twice. They learned fast, and they had the kind of empath telepathy which only twins ever do. They delight audiences with their feats of daring team acrobatics, contortionist stunts and magical prowess, renowned and talented actors performing stories both physically and verbally, drawing audiences from all over Sornieth. The twins did not strive to differentiate themselves quickly, as many twins might; that came much later. As their parents were preoccupied with their various tasks and particularly their mother, early on, continually mistook one for the other, so for the first few years, they played a trick on the clanfolk in pretending that there was only one of them. It meant they had half the homework and chores, but on the other hand, seemed to be eating twice the food, so soon their merry jape had to stop. As they grew, and had to be apart for longer at a time, their personalities began to develop very differently. Vipera, despite his name, was kind and gentle, whereas Farfalla was brusque, impatient and unemotive, more like her mother. They fast acquired a penchant for performance, delighting their fellow hatchlings with imaginative interpretations of clan legends using the two of them in all of the parts. This continued into later years, with the now-adult Coatl twins becoming well known as performers, worth travelling a long way across clans, to get to see. Bard, the minstrel, long ago in his travelling days, once remarked on visiting that he'd thought The Tribe had managed to breed a two-headed coatl, until their contortionist performance was completed and the pair separated to take a bow. And despite the truth coming as a shock, it only made him more impressed. The two moved, thought, spoke, as if they were not two souls born at once, but one soul born twice.

╭
Farfalla was a lepidopterist, and wore brightly coloured garb and even a mask made from butterfly's wings, to lure the creatures in. Unbeknownst to most, she still delights in capturing them in jars, then displaying them around her home, and wonders vaguely with less sorrow than plain disappointment why it is they always die. She was never emotional, like the other hatchlings, and while she can feign things like delight, sorrow, enthusiasm, attachment- she doesn't seem to feel them, and doesn't express them spontaneously. Instead, she watched. Watched, and copied, and learned, until she could act out what she saw, so perfectly that the imitation was believable; a talent that made her an excellent actor, and performer. She could tell a story with her body language alone, and used the skill to great effect. It was she who suggested that Vipera and herself would make an excellent double act, and it is she who invents the routines and ever more daring performances that they undertake together. Vipera is happy enough to follow Farfalla's lead, and Farfalla is overjoyed- insofar as it is perceptible- to have the reins. Once, when she was young, Farfalla tried to sneak into the forbidden mushroom caves to visit her father, whom she had never been allowed to meet. Farfalla was caught, and scolded to the point of abject humiliation in front of everyone, and thenceforth vowed never to care about anything again. Except Vipera, of course. Her other half, the one who would never betray her; her soul-twin. Vipera was her confidant and her enabler, and the same could be said vice versa. When Farfalla was confused and hurt by a fellow hatchling's bullying, Vipera would go put a semi-poisonous snake in their bed. When Vipera failed their mother's lessons, and was stricken with fevers and hallucinations from the toxins, Farfalla would bring him lovely butterflies with pins through their hearts, and hang them over Vipera's bed so he could watch them flutter in the breeze, just to cheer him up. Their mother's mercenary attitude to Vipera's well-being only strengthened Farfalla's resolve against her, and it was with jubilation that she saw them off and away from The Tribe's territory. The twins' performance that night was unsurpassed, and Farfalla shone like a star in the heavens during the farewell performance. She wanted her reputation to exceed the ones her parents forced down her throat; proud, successful, talented and valued; not as she had been, a clumsy hatchling without comprehension of the complex world around her. And in this ambition, she absolutely succeeded.

Quote:
Technically, Farfalla is now a 'Dancing Petals' subspecies dragon. She would find this hugely offensive if she could see the irony, as she's nothing like a frail leaf on the wind, but she misunderstood when it was described to her. She'd never heard of a subspecies before, and she thought it sounded like some elite group of mercenaries who also perform deadly fan-dances, and for some reason she'd been accepted as one of them, and hence she is proud.
