Every part of her glittered. From her crystalline body and lustrous wings, to her radiating runes. She was a marvel, from the moment she stepped out of her broken eggshell. There was a collective "ooh" and "aah" as she pried her way out and saw the sun, nobody was expecting her to be a miracle. She was meant to be nothing more than a mere soldier to fight in the war of the gods, but she somehow evaded that fate. Maybe she was just fortunate. She was called a blessing, because of her mother being a Mirror while she herself turned out as an Imperial. Not to mention matching colors, which seemed to be all the rage these days. Her name meant 'mirror', named after her reflective wings.
She had a sister though. Her sister... was another story. Oten, she was called. Even her name meant 'stain'. And it was no fault of her own, it was only because of her 'inferior' breed and traditionally unattractive colors. Despite this, they still grew up close. But Kagami still couldn't shake the feeling that Oten was jealous of her, bitter that Kagami was the favored daughter and not her. And who could blame her? Growing up in the shadow of your sister hurts. But still, Oten knew that Kagami wasn't in control of any of it, so she did her best to forgive her older sister. They were still somehow close enough that they did everything together. It was like they were glued together; you couldn't see Kagami without her counterpart Oten, or vice-versa.
Even so, Oten's sadness and envy increased. With every single compliment Kagami received and she didn't, she felt herself break down a little bit more. Maybe it was silly to be so superficial, but it still stung. Eventually, she broke the news to Kagami. She was going to serve the deities and fight, because she knew that no clan would want her. Kagami was heartbroken, she was going to lose the dragon closest to her. Still, Kagami bid her farewell when the day came for her to leave. Now what? Kagami was alone now. Was Kagami blessed... or cursed?
