Masago - meaning sand

Killian's playful eyes locked onto the snow as he emerged from his lair. How perfect!, he thought to himself as he quickly looked around to see if the hatchlings had woken up. He could hear their sleepy voices as the clan started to wake up one by one, only Esselm having seen the snow so far.

The spiral quickly darted around, gathering some of the fluffy snow to hide himself in near the hatchling's nests. It wasn't long before they tottered out, their eyes turning from sleepy to amazed as the bright white caught their attention. "Wow!! It really is cold like papa said!" screeched Masago in excitement. The little tundra jumped up and down in the snow, feeling it between her toes in excitement.
Chandan flitted out of the cave and nearly stopped dead in his tracks, quickly flying to Masago's side to hide in her thick fur. "Wh-what is-ss-s thiss stuff-f-f??" His stutter betrayed how cold he already was, and she vowed to keep him warm. "It's snow! Papa told me about it, isn't it amazing?" She lifted each of her feet, looking down at all the footprints that she was making.

Without warning, they heard a low growl start with increasing volume behind them. With a start, they flipped around to face the direction of the snow pile as it rose quickly to become a loud snow monster. They both screeched and ran back towards the cave entrance, ducking behind the rock wall. The monster's intimidating growls devolved into laughter as more snow fell off to reveal the icy spiral to the startled hatchlings.


He grinned at the two newest members of the clan and hummed to himself. This was indeed the best time of year!
