Thanatos is one of exactly three Realmwalker field agents assigned to the Clan of Rattling Bone. He was born to a family heavily rooted in the ways of the Realmwalkers, and he grew up among spirits, otherworldly beings and all manner of eldritch horrors.

This life was all he knew. A quiet, enigmatic hatchling from birth, he devoted himself fully to his studies, keen on becoming the best of the corps. His parents’ expectations weighed heavily on his shoulders, so he kept at his training for years, intent on bearing the burden alone.

Everything was going smoothly for him. He had graduated top of his class and was on the fast lane to enlisting.

That is, till he learned that new members of the Realmwalker corps had to work in pairs. His partner? A new initiate, a tundra still unused to the ways of the Realmwalker corps. Her name was Tyche, and she was a magician that scouts found possessed a degree of talent.

Thanatos scoffed when he heard. A partner would only slow him down.

Tyche turned out to be annoying, talkative and bright, in that order. The two did not get along, and Thanatos found it difficult to believe that a great many Realmwalker actually chose to remain with their assigned partners long after the need for the partnership grew redundant.

But he hadn’t the experience.

It took several missions and the threat of suspension before they grudgingly began to make an attempt. Even then, they only warmed up to each other when a particularly difficult mission led to Thanatos sustaining grievous injuries that, if not treated, would prove fatal.

(Funny how death brings people together, isn’t it?)

Beneath Tyche’s veneer of carelessness and cheer, Thanatos found an empathetic, kind dragon who was terrified to the core of letting down those who trusted her. It was an uncomfortably familiar feeling. The two went on to become one of the most effective and dangerous pairs in the Realmwalker corps, but more importantly, friends.

Still, he was in trepidation at the prospect of joining the Clan of Rattling Bone. It was a backwater, he’d heard, and not at all suitable for two qualified professionals. Now that they’re comfortably settled in, he’s slightly more willing to let his guard down.
