Once long ago, Mal fought alongside his brother in the quest of saving the land from the marches of Plague. The disease-ridden land was pushing to it's borders constantly, driving other lands back as it expanded without care or remorse for the balance the gods had built. The warriors of Shadow were on the front-lines, ensuring no innocents fell to Plague's march. Notch the arrow, aim, release Mal was an archer of immense skill, able to stealth behind enemy lines and pick them off one by one as they panicked under his hail of arrows. All there was for the archer was the chase, the next mission his brother Bon sent him on. He was never one to speak up, preferring to watch and judge silently. He never said a word when Thornspine was captured and kept his council to himself when the creature was supposedly turned to their side. Notch the arrow, aim, release He was not there when his brother fell to betrayal and dragged away. Thornspine had known Mal's tactics well at that point and in his effort to flank an enemy hoard, Mal was himself flanked by enemies and run through with a poisoned blade. He fell from the embrace of the trees; arrows scattering like leaves as he struggled to live. Perhaps by chance, perhaps by design, he was saved by the Dark Seeker Radius. The mage cleansing the undead hoard with his lightning. Notch the arrow, aim, release Radius brought him home to the Broken Tower at the heart of Plague and there for many years Mal raged and struggled against his confines, against the always gentle hands and patient words of the Seeker. Eventually even the proud archer broke and kneeled at the Imperial's feet and Radius, ever patient, taught Mal the way of magic and of healing. The once fervent hunter of Shadow is now a soft-handed healer, seeking redemption in ways even he cannot explain by healing those where he once killed. Breathe Deep Feel the Pull Let Go |
