Biography

Blakavar insists the world is ending. He also talks to demons, so whether that gives him more credibility or less is up to you.

Statement of nature bogsneak Blakavar, regarding visions of the apocalypse

Not sure why I’m still trying to warn you. No one will ever believe me. Then again maybe that’s for the best. I don’t know if knowing could prevent what’s to come.
I don’t know when it will happen. I don’t know how. Maybe I’m just having terrible dreams. But there’s a truth to them that can’t be denied. An inevitability. I was a scholar once, trying my best to understand the nature of this world, and the end is written upon it more deeply than anything.
Entropy is what they call it. The second law. No system, no matter how perfect, is sustainable. In every cycle something must be lost. There are so many more ways to be broken than whole.
This isn’t supposition. It isn’t poetry. It is so much easier to break a teacup than to repair it once it has been smashed. And there are so many more ways the porcelain can be scattered across the floor than ways for it to be whole. You can pick it up, glue it back together, but one day there won’t be enough of you left either to fix it. Time marches on despite our efforts.
Perhaps you’ve heard the reports coming from the Arcanist, in his observatory. That every galaxy he sees is not only moving away from us, and from each other, but that the rate at which they’re moving is speeding up. Space itself is expanding, and there will come a day when those distant galaxies have moved so far and so quickly that even light won’t be able to outpace the ever growing distances between them. Not that there will be much starlight, then. The largest stars will collapse into themselves, becoming pits so powerful nothing can escape them, and the rest will cool and die and fade. And even these dead things will perish too. Having eaten their fill the black holes will evaporate away, the cold hearts of stars and sunless worlds will fall to pieces. This we know. There will come a time when not only are you and I dead, but so is Sornieth and its gods, so even is the memory of them. All that was will be lost forever, and even the Shade itself will fade and die with nothing left to feed it.
But that is not what I am here to tell you. I am here because our end comes sooner. The arcanist awoke to the ruins of the second age. Dragonkind awoke to the ruins of the tower. I walk in dreams amidst the ruins of today.
The sun still sits in the sky. The stars have not moved very far. But the world is dead, and what remains of our memory is dying too, so that whatever might come along and see that we were once here will find nothing. How, precisely, it happens, I do not know. But calamity has always followed in the height of power. The elements grow stronger now, and I fear their breaking point is near. When we have used it all what will be left? The gods go missing, old things awaken for one last moment in the sun. All of this new knowledge will soon be ash in the wind.
Our fates have always been certain. But suddenly the end seems near enough to touch, and I am afraid.

Statement Ends

Supplementary: Blakavar is correct in one thing: I don’t believe him. His science is accurate enough I suppose, but the eventual heat death of the Universe has nothing to do with the claim of an impending apocalypse. Without more details there is nothing to verify or disprove, so consider this case closed.
