Biography

Iden
"Is't not enough to break into my garden,
And, like a thief, to come to rob my grounds,
Climbing my walls in spite of me the owner,
But thou wilt brave me with these saucy terms? "

~ Alexander Iden, History of Henry VI, Part II (4.10.2920-2923) ~

An Encounter
Someone was breaking into the maze. Adolescent Iden stood there, several ideas running through his head on how to react (Hide up against the wall! Grab a spear! Back off and then pounce! Charge and take initiative!), but too inexperienced on know which would be the best, or to even just settle on one and do it. So he froze there and watched the invader come as his ideas tore him in different directions and he acted on none.

Through the bushes stumbled a corven. The bogsneak had sense enough to look up and flinch at the supposed raptorik strike that was bound to happen, but the skies were clear. No Talonok cries carried on the wind, and the corven in front of him was wounded.

They looked at each other for a moment, and Iden saw it carried a sack that bulged with tubers and other roots. It had been in the garden. It had been stealing food before someone got it and it ran. His lips peeled back exposing his teeth to the thief.

A new noise approached from the bushes. Iden recognized this sound. His mother's Rosaline Strangler slithered through the gap in the hedges, saw the corven, and hissed in a deep and rattling way he'd never heard before. It sounded like a creature twice its size. There was blood around its mouth.

The corven screeched at the strangler who reared back to strike. Whatever it said was probably impolite. Iden felt confident again in the presence of the familiar, the indecisiveness gone in the face of the strangler's clear course of action. As a team, dragon and strangler pounced on the intruder, reclaiming the stolen goods and ensuring this particular thief would not prey on them again.
