Jackdaw, the resident keeper of shiny things. Though quiet this skydancer knows more than he lets on. A symbol of change--of rebirth, he often detects changes before they come if he is not the one to herald it. |

Jackdaw came from across the seas—from the edge of the world where land was a long forgotten concept and all there was the unrelenting sea, ever fickle in her moods, and her companion the sky who was just as mercurial. He was born in those waters. He died in those waters. Then he took a new breath and lived again.
— We work in the dark —
Time passed as it always did heedless of anything but the certainty of the next moment. Jackdaw came to the continent following the bittersweet taste on his tongue and the magic pulsing beneath his feathers. There he wandered. There he found his affinity with life and death. In the years or decades or millennia (time was a concept as elusive as land had once been) that Jackdaw wandered, he found no reason to stay. On a day like any other he stepped into the diseased wasteland where he wandered through unnatural life and cruel survival with apathy and distance gained through time (too much time) and dark magic that had became part of him long ago. A dark ghost he was, reaping death as needed, offering life as earned. Clan Invicta was an oddity. Numerous dragons came and went, going to other homes that called to them or to serve the Plaguebringer as they willed. A core group however always remained. It was with these dragons that some feeling sparked within his empty chest. They offered him a place in their clan without much trouble. They hardly batted an eye when Anax phased through him in his semi-corporeal form. Anax had laughed, a sound that had every dragon in hearing range stiffen and retreat, and gladly welcomed him into the clan with a grin filled with sharp teeth. He did not mean to stay. But the emotion that he learned was loneliness was eased within the company of these strange collection of dragons. For once, his being was not a burden. He was not something to be feared or revered. Here he was Jackdaw, a quiet and odd but likable skydancer who stole trinkets but put them back later, who told stories gathered across multitudes of land and time, and who patrolled the borders without ever being asked. On an evening where the sun set with a blaze of red, turning the sky crimson, Vesta had nudged him gently with her snout. She didn't say a word. Didn't do anything aside from offering him a smile stained with bitter understanding, but as the dying light of the sun danced along her wings and shadowed her gentle eyes, Jackdaw realized that he had found what he had been searching for.
