History
Who was Sanguine before the Stricken? Sanguine did not exist. There was once a pure white Fae named Ciana who loved magic, learning, and all living things, loved them so much that when the little birds she kept died, she tried to bring them back. She failed of course, only managing to make their tiny white wings twitch, but she kept trying. And trying. And then she became good at it. Well the things she brought back weren’t the same. So pale, so pale and colourless. She realised that though she could animate flesh and bones the vital spirit had already ebbed away while their blood turned black and congealed in her beautiful creations veins. So switched focus, all her obsessive attention turned to blood and all its strange properties. She found she had a talent, blood could do so many interesting things. She could pull it from a living host and make it dance, she could create entirely new creatures, and there was still so much more to learn.
Her birth clan did not see the beauty in her new ‘pets’- some even vomited when they saw what she had been working on. They tried to take her to a doctor, as if genius needed a cure! So, She left, and there the memories flow into mists of blood. Somewhere and somehow Ciana found the Stricken and became Sanguine. Her worthless white scales had fallen away, and new perfect red ones had taken their place. The Stricken didn’t try to bind Sanguine nor keep her from her work, in fact they celebrated it. She lived happily like this for centuries.

Then things started to change. The steady stream of bodies (both dragon and beast alike) that the clan’s violent enthusiasm supplied her research with dried up. Dragons stopped coming to her asking for new spells to maim and destroy. And finally, worst of all Aldera invited Moss into the clan; a nature Druidess who seemed bent on stopping all “unnecessary killing” whatever that meant. Sanguine was enraged that her sanctuary was being dismantled and so she went to confront this upstart Druidess. Sanguine would have simply turned Moss’s blood to bile and leave the wicked creature to die that way had it not been for Aldera’s command that Moss should not be harmed. So Sanguine settled for debate as her weapon. But Moss was no hatchling, her tongue was sharper than any of Sanguine’s prized scalpels. She asked her to consider how life and death were intertwined, blood is born from living flesh after all. And the dead fuel the living. This alone would have not have gotten through to Sanguine, but Moss happened to use an example that struck a chord.

“Take this Janustrap: the soil it lives in is without the life-giving fuel that dying plants normally give, so it changed to eat living animals, everything needs death to survive”

And just like that a new obsession was born.

Now Sanguine spends most of her days tending to her ever-growing collection of carnivorous plants. She has gained some renown as a botanist and travels frequently to give talks on her speciality [Carnivorous plants native to the Plague Domain] as well as to collect samples from across Sornieth. Moss has become one of her greatest friends. She has an agreement with Glae to use his micro swamp to grow certain varieties of carnivorous plants. She is one of the few in the clan who can bear listening to Glae’s monologues about swamp ecology, especially as he is one of the few who is interested in her research and they will happily sit chatting for hours while Moss fetches tea and other snacks. She is also one of a handful permitted to enter Dr Neutron’s laboratory. She is growing some very special varieties in strict quarantine, as well as providing a great many useful raw materials and living samples to the ‘Good Doctor’. He has also found her earlier work to be extremely useful, though he finds it hard to get her help as she hates anything that distracts from her primary obsession.
