Marlin was always self-conscious about his appearance. He was never particularly happy with the colors and genes he had been born with and tended to cover himself up with plenty of armor to hide his shameful scales.

One day, however, a fellow clan mate decided to try his hand at a Scatterscroll. He came out rather handsomely, so Marlin thought he'd follow suit and see if he too could become one of the pretty dragons.

Something went amiss.

His once muted blues and greens suddenly became the most horrific mess of white, yellow and neon purple that he'd ever seen on one dragon. His clanmates looked on in horror and amusment at his new coloration, and Marlin was more self-conscious than ever before. He immediately shed his armor for a set of skintight apparel that covered even more of his body and fled the scene without a word to the gathered crowd.

Since the incident, he's stayed locked away in his quarters until nightfall. Even then he only leaves due to his duty of being a night watchman and goes to great lengths to avoid any areas where he can tell dragons are still awake...
